In times of frustration what brings you comfort?

Been a long and frustrating day. Won't go into it and won't vent.
Got a bottle of water to sip and candles lit. Mellowing out and came here to the peace and comfort that I find on these boards and with  my Medina family. (deep sigh)

What brings you comfort in times of frustration? When you are feeling the burden of being exposed to cruel and hateful people? You know, we don't always agree and we have differences, but I can say I have never, ever seen anyone on this board cruel or mean.

Quran verses? Relaxation technics? Suggestions please? The sound of running water (waves, streams, etc) seems to make me relax but hubby has to work in the morning, otherwise I would have him take me down to listen to the waves and watch the water. But it's 11 pm and to late for that.   :(
I'll be ok, but I am having one of my...'Beam me up Scotty, this planet sucks' days   ::)

You  live on open land right azizah? with fields around etc How about just sitting outside and watching the stars - can't really see them here in the city :'(

Listening to nice recitations of the qur'an can also be very relaxing.

But sometimes all that seems to work is to have a big ol' cry and just let it all out :'( ::)

Sister Attia is SO right, Alhumdulillah....sometimes a good old CRY is all that you need.

Listening to and watching the waves helps too :-)

When, as you said it is too late to do this, i find painting very relaxing.

The repetitiveness of Zikr also relaxes me.

Listening to the chanting of the 99 Virtues of Allah SWT is one of my FAVOURITE ways to unwind :-)

So does listening to Sheikh Abu Bakr Shatri, there is this one verse he reads, "Kad Aflahaman tha Zakah.....Ebraima wa Moosa" {S87, V14-19}....it seems to repeat in my head all the time.  I find his recitation very relaxing, Alhumduliallah.

Insha Allah, i hope you feel better.

Thank you Attia and Bismilla, I need to get the Quran on CD so I can listen to it. The good cry does not fit as last night was pure anger and frustration over some very mean and cruel people. Are there any Quran verses mentioning how to deal with such people or mention on how the Prophet dealt with them? (sigh) I'll try to think of it as a test of my patience and such.

How do some of you deal with people you come across who are so angry, mean and cruel to others? Not just to me but to others around them? I am in frustration over my own beliefs, I usually now just walk away and don't deal with them. But I use to always think if I walk away I am not solving the problem, yet it is not my problem to solve, or is it?

salaam / peace

I hope it's of comfort to u :)

this is a tradition of the prophet muhammad [saw]:

Be mindful of Allah, you will find Him before you.  Get to know Allah in prosperity and He will know you in adversity. Know that what has passed you by was not going to befall you and that what has befallen you was not going to pass you by.  And know that victory comes with patience, relief with affliction, and ease with hardship.

Be mindful of Allah, and Allah will protect you.  Be mindful of Allah, and you will find Him in front of you.  If you ask, ask of Allah; if you seek help, seek help of Allah.  Know that if an entire nation were to to gather together to benefit you with anything, it would benefit you only with something that Allah had already prescribed for you.  And that if they gather together to harm you with anything, they would harm you only with something Allah had already prescribed for you. The pens have been lifted and the pages have dried.

peace be with u and upon u :)

Hope your situation is eased. You are always welcome to join this faith of Islaam, which is open to everyone. The Qur'aan addresses itself mainly to mankind, so it's a message to you as much as it is to me, and may Allah make it easy for you and me, both. The Prophet (S) often told his followers that he was only sent to perfect (moral) character. Striving towards this, is one of the most noble things humanity can do.

To answer your question, knowing that there is an aakhirah/afterlife and that there is a Just God, is what does it, in general, although there are all types of "relaxation techniques" that may help on the side. Having a faith that makes sense and is complete makes it a pretty holisticly sound resource for any situation. I can't explain it in any other way at the moment.

I may have mentioned it before, but I have a friend who once taught me a really valuable lesson. When confronted with a really nasty situation, she would excuse herself, pray 2 raka'at (cycles of prayer), and return to deal with the situation. Sounds cliche, but it's the prayer and remembrance of God that brings peace, and is a guide.

O mankind! there hath come to you guidance from your Lord and a healing for the (diseases) in your hearts, and for those who believe, a guidance and a Mercy.
[Translation of the Qur'aan, Yunus (Jonah) 10:57).

And indeed We have now sent the Word to them, in order that they may receive admonition.
Those to whom We sent the Book before this; they believe in it.
And when it is recited to them, they say: "We believe therein, verily it is the Truth from our Lord. Indeed we have been Muslims (submitting to God's Will) from even before this."
Twice will they be given their reward, because they perservered and repel Evil with Good, and they spend (in charity) out of what We have given to them.
And when they hear vain talk, they turn away therefrom and say: "To us our deeds, and to you yours. Peace be upon you: we seek not the ignorant." Verily, you will not be able to guide those that you like; but God guides those whom He wills and He knows best those who are guided.
[Translation of the Qur'aan, Al-Qasas (The Narration) 28:51-56]

And the servants of the Most Gracious are those who walk on the earth in humility, and when the ignorant address them, they say, "Peace!";
[Translation of the Qur'aan, Al-Furqaan (The Criterion) 25:63]

In the name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
Praise be to God, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the Worlds;
Most Gracious, Most Merciful;
Master of the Day of Judgment.
To You do we worship, and Your aid we seek.
Show us the straight way,
The way of those on whom You have bestowed Your Grace, those whose (portion) is not wrath, and who go not astray.
[Translation of the Qur'aan, Al-Faatihah (The Opening) 1:1-7)]
