I was wondering if anyone knows of any good Ramadan Activites for kids. I have a 4 year old and a 2 year old and I am looking for some activites for them to learn about Ramadan.

Thanks
Ann

Assalamo elikuim

For kids this small having an Iftar and maghrib salat as jammat would be a nice start. When we were kids(long time ago :)) and now with my kids, I usually set Iftar table for all of us and we just wait for the adhan and then recite the dua and eat as if everybody including the kids were fasting :).
Also letting them help in making iftar or may be setting the table would be good too.
Letting them give a little money in charity would be good too, even if it is a quater . Last year at Eid prayers I told my older one to give some money($1 which is a lot from him :) ) of his own in charity. He was saving his money for some toy(he was even saving nickles and pennies.)  I wasnt sure if he did because he was at the men's side. But afterwards when we were going to meet somebody I asked him if he did and he said he did. I felt so happy and told him that Allah(swt) will multiply and will give him the reward in maybe this duniya or Jannah. Well, the relative we went to visit on Eid gave him $20(we weren't expecting any Eidi from ) and my older one said to me "Ami Allah has already rewarded me":)

Also what I do is decorate the dining area/room. One year I used green streamer and wrote "Ramadhan Mubarik" in Arabic on the wall( on Eid day I took out Ramadhan and replace it with Eid :)). Last year what we did was wrote Ramadhan Mubarik but also I bought silver wrapping paper from Dollar Store(my fav store :)) , me and kids cut the shape of starts and stick them  on the walls. My older one gave the idea that we should have one moon also .
This year Inshallah we will be going to our favourite store :) next week. I am thinking of getting green streamers and silver paper to make stars and hanging the stars with green streamer from the roof or may be putting streamers on the wall with stars in between them . My older one suggested that he will write Allah swt  names on paper and will let my younger one  colour them and then putting them on the walls with streamer adn stars around them. So we havent decided yet what exactly to do but it will be streamer, silver paper :)

Also I would like any more  ideas too :)
O yes , I also liked the idea of lanterns, may be we will try them

I have got thousands of ideas!

My favorite top 10.

1. On the anticipated night of moon sighting... with the family, go to the hill top with binoculars and treats.  If it is going to be cloudy... do a make believe in your home...like a midnight picnic... with a crescent hanging from the ceiling. Remember... our communities always seem to spot the new moon... chuckle chuckle... but still go out the next night so they can see the moon.

2. The month is about charity. Have your kids help bake cookies and give them to some poor people.

3. The month is about the Qur'an - take them in your lap and read the sura on how it all started. I actually build a cave and go all out! I read a bit of the Prophet's [saw] life and then go into the cave.

4. The month is about prayer. Sit with them and make up some duas... keep the sillies as well as the serious and post them on the fridge. One night have dad take them and watch the men... For about 10 minutes...attention span and all....

5. The month is about fasting. Deprive them of something they like. Soda candy, juice.... Let them break their fast with this item!

6. The month is about doing extra deeds. Let them say what they want to do... encourage them to do it.

7. Presents... this is contoversial... I like to give my son a small present every night when it is time to break fast. Not only does he look forward to it...but it keeps him busy when I am running around like a chicken with out a head!

8. Decorations... involve them... the years go buy fast. You can have the professional ones when they are older. make a calendar, links, anything with 29/30 days on so they can check off each day.

9.  Community... it is not just about our friends... have a dinner with just their buddies.

10. The best activity is being with them, involve them.. all a child really wants is their parents time. Trust me... it goes too fast... don't get involved with the details...get involved with them!

what about making a ramadan calender, at the same time attaching a small present for every day, which the kids can open after iftar.
eg you could take a big piece of cloth and draw a nice mosque on it, paint a nice sky with lamette (is it the same in english?) and a crescent.
onto the cloth which you can hang up in the childrens room, or eg on their door, you attach 29/30 small packages; wrapp each package into gift paper, take a woolen thread and a safety pin and pin it onto the cloth on a nice place . write upon each package a number, 1 to 29/30 so that each ´for each day you can specially think of sth; eg for the last ten days some better/nicer things; or for the last day, a special gift.

presents in these packages can be sweets, but also a nice pencil, a nice eraser;
or take a nice islamic picture, cut it into 30 puzzle-pieces and at the and of ramadan kids can have a complete beautiful puzzle

for older kids: take duas, hadith, or aayat on small paperpieces; but also some nice riddles or short songs, short islamic stories, or easier questions about islam, for which they get sth special again when answering it right

have fun preparing this for your lovely kids  :)
