| AsSalamuAlaikum ! There is a prominent well respected member of our global muslim community that has lately been quite lenient with the permisability of music. Although previously he took a strict view of music and its legality, at present, he has let down his guard so to speak and is now promoting Islam through his music. Eventhough I am not the best when it comes to staying away from music, I have to say that I am upset with this brother's action. It has left me lost and quite confused. I have been taught that music is not encouraged in Islam and the industry that music is surrounded in is not only corrupt but evil and destructive. So why has it suddenly been 'ok'd' for this brother to do daawa with his music? Are we not seeking Allah's pleasure in this doonia? So if we have a charity nite with music and intermingling between the sexes, doesn't this defeat our long term goal of pleasing Allah? Plus, are we not meant to feel safe in the presence of another muslim. If i feel uncomfortable and guilty about this whole issue doesn't it mean he has failed to make me feel safe? Do we have to compromise certain issues to appear 'cool' to the West?
