We've agreed to send Fatima to an Islamic school, they do the regular curriculum but also do a few hours Islamic studies and best of all they have adhaan and pray at the correct times. They are rated pretty well in the league tables which doesn't hurt either... I'm just glad I have the option the schools around here are pretty dire, it's amazing the children can spell their own names....

[slm],

I know what you mean, Fozia the schools where I live are in sad shape too. I just finished high school about 4 or 5 years ago, a public one, and I couldn't believe they let some of those students graduate, they couldn't barely read.
I don't have kids, but some day will, insha'Allah..And I would want to send them to an Islamic schooh if there was a good one, and we could afford it, rather than a public school. My public school experience was, let's say lacking, quite a bit.

Go for an islamic school coz you may not want your kids to be fed on the unislamic/secular stuff. Even when they are there in an Islamic school it is recommended to get them registered in some sat/sunday madrassa as many islamic schools are just Muslim schools (which are always better than  public schools).

I really admire sis Halima (a member of this board) for the way she is bringing up her boys. :: thumbsup for her ::

Assalamo elikuim

I think Islamic Schools are the best choice. My older has been going to only Islamic schools(pre-school,KG ..). Now he is in 4th grade Masahallah. My reason for sending him there was that he should know/learn  deen(Quran,Hadith,Arabic as language) along with regular studies.
ON the other hand my younger one has been to Islamic school only for couple of months in pre-school - he is now in regular school( KG)  but Inshallah I plan to send him to Islamic school if everythign works out fine(Inshallah).
There are many reasons sometimes parents cannot send their kids to Islamic school -may be finance, may be a child needs special attention or maybe the Islamic school in their area is not so Islamic or poor quality of education(Islamic and regular).
I believe what we teach our kids at home cannot be replaced by any school and that there is no garauntee(sp) that by sending kids to Islamic school our kids will be best Muslims. I have met and seen some kids going to regular school  practicing Islam and having knowledge of deen better than some Islamic school kids and vice versa.

I went to Islamic Schools up to high schools, then did my A levels at a public school. I liked doing it this way, because the Islamic schools, when functioning effectively, not only give you regular study in Islamic subjects, but the will to stick to them, and the foundation on which the individual himself will want to learn more.

A secular college, because it makes sense to know about the society in which you live, the good as well as the bad, so you wont be completly clueless at university  :D

I thought it worked out pretty well :)

ma asalaamah and take care
