I was hoping maybe we could talk about what the friday khutbah was about  that we attended (note I'm only interested in the friday khutbahs that you personally attended, starting from last friday).  And maybe some valuable lessons you learned or things said that caused you to reflect on the words said and maybe what changes you are planning on making in your life as a result.

p.s.
Remember, only the ones YOU attended starting from last Friday.

Assalamu 'Alaikum,

Last Friday we had a khateeb from another city. He was here to raise some funds for the new masjid that they are building in their city. Most part of the khutbah was reminder how short this life is, and how short the enjoyment of the life of this dunya is, how people have forgotten the Akhirah etc. One of the things that he said and I really liked was "If there is anything that we should remember by the end of the day, it should be our sins and nothing else" ( not sure if its a hadeeth that he quoted ). So that statement really got me thinking that indeed its so true, and would definitely be so beneficial in improving myself if I start doing it on daily basis, that before going to sleep, I should try to remember what and how many sins did I commit today. That reflection should lead to asking for forgiveness from Allah (swt) before I go to sleep, and that I should plan a resolution how to avoid those sins the next day.

Wassalam.

as salaamu alaykum,

Our imam mentioned this awesome quote of Ali (radhiAllahu anh) during the khutbah.. he said that you should always remember two things, and you should always forget two things -- you should always remember Allah, and you should always remember death.. and you should always forget the harm people have done towards you (because it will build up rancor and ill feeling in your heart), and you should always forget your good deeds (so that you don't feel pride or arrogance)
