[slm] Eid means holiday So in ISLAMM there are two Eids( holidays) the first one is the Eid right aftern the ramdan is over .It is the first day of the month SHAWAL( the month next to RAMADAN.) It is holday to enjoy after a long fasting .The first day of EID is a day with pleasure ,visiting relatives and friends .it is must to eat this day , but this first fasting ( volunteer ) is not permitted .but as there is six days in this month must that is recommended to fast , most people fast any six days in this month .It is similar to the way ramadan is observed after the crecent is seen means is the end of Ramadan and the EID comes . The days of celebrating varies from place to place but most ISLAMIC countries celebrate for 3 days for example ,here in saudi arabia works are off for a week and some times upto more , but the first 3 days are felt as Eid ( holiday ) The other EID Is the day after the ending of performing HAJ( pilgrimage ) .It is an EID since IBRAHIM ( pbuh) when he saw the dream to slaught his son then ALLAH Sent him The sheep to slaught instead of his son ,of caourse that was the bigest test ever a mankind has faced . for this reason it is reccomended to every one to slaught a sheep but with good look and healthy ,and divide into 3 parts 1 for your self and one part for the neigbors and freinds and the 3rd part for the poor ,and this way every one is happy enjoying this holdiay Did I make things clear ? |

[slm] Eid is a holiday. Eid'al-Fitr' is the holiday right after the end of Ramadhan. 'Fitr' is derived from the word 'fitrah' which means nature. So its like a holiday back to nature, i.e. no more restraints from eating, drinking, etc. just like before Ramadhan. The second Eid is Eid al-Adha, which is at the end of the prilgrimage period. The purpose, as sis Sal mentioned, is commemorate Prophet Ibraham's success on the test Allah put upon him, i.e. to slaughter his son, Ismaeil (Ishmael) which he obeyed. But Allah most merciful, replaced Ismaeil with a goat/sheep just before Abraham's knife cut Ismaeil's throat. The command from Allah to Ibraham was to see if Ibrahim loved his son more than Allah. |
