Alhamdulillah i was fasting today (nafl fast), went to a friend's house who placed some fruit infront of me and i was about to have some but realized that me is fasting :P but even if i had eaten some by mistake that wouldn't have resulted in breaking my fast as its all about neeyah.

Have done this mistake coupla times and even came across people who mistakingly took the whole meal at times :P :P (do we have that class on here ?? :P )

Alhamdulillah for the ease provided by Allah [swt]

Asssalamu Aliakum

Br. Nomi,

I've read and heard that fasting the day before Ramadaan as an extra (nafl) fats in prohibited, just as fasting the days of eid..etc are. Anybody heard the same?

Wassalamu Alaikum,
Deen :-)

Yes I believe to fast on the two days before Ramadan is Makruh. It's not haram though... and maybe some people have to still make up days!!!

The local masjid here in Denver, CO started fasting and Tarawiy prayers yesterday (Sunday) even though Ramadan didn't start till today (Monday) because they are following Egypt.

i've read in this situation, you are allowed to break your fast - as it is only nafl? ???  anyone else know of this?  i'll search for the hadith and post it inshAllah. :)

Talked to couple of scholars yesterday, sis deen was right in a way as there are two ways to look at the issue of "nafl" fast "one" day before Ramadan.

1] The 30th of Shaban is called "youm-ul-shak" (day of doubt) so its not recommended (makruh) to fast the day before Ramadan with a doubt that it might not be the 30th of Shaban but the 1st of Ramadan but if someone can purely think of it as a "nafl" fast then one can do it. But as "commom people" might always be in doubt so scholars say that they shouldn't fast the day before Ramadan even if they are doing it as a nafl (but ulama still can!).

2] If the above sounded french to you... just dont fast one day before Ramadan as its not recommended (Makruh)

Jazaks to the sisters for pointing it out.
