Not to sound like a whimp :D but if I am traveling, driving and talking to several people a day (like 20 to 40 a day or more) Would it be breaking the fast to allow myself some sipping water. (But minimal) and no other fluids? Was curious. Fast means fast but I was always taught there were different times of fast, just no food, or no food and liquid. |

[slm], Yeah, it would break your fast if you took anything in intentionally, even a sip of water. While fasting, a muslim is not supposed to eat, drink or have marital relationship starting from dawn to dusk. It can be a little bit hard for first timers, but after a little bit of practice its not too difficult, esp. since fasting days are shorter in these times. |

Just a note Azizah, If you are traveling more than around 50 miles (this is an approximate), you are allowed to break your fast if you wish. A Muslim who breaks their fast in Ramadhan has to make it up later, a day for a day. You may already know this, but just to reinforce it. :) |

[slm] When I first found out about the Ramadan fast I thought it was crazy for a person to put themselves through something like that. I studied about it some more and then decided to fast with some Muslim friends and I had a wonderful experience doing it with them. I have done it several years before I became a Muslim because I loved the feeling that fasting gave me. The first few days are the hardest, but it gets easier as your body goes through the change for several days. I talk to people all day long at work since I work at the ticket counter for an airline. The hardest was two years ago when we were still required to ask four mandatory security questions to each and every passenger I checked in. It was busy too!! But I got through it ok, and as the days went on my body got used to it. Just try it and see how you handle it. But like sis Taalibatul_ilm says, you may break your fast if you travel more than a certain distance and fasting will become a burden on you. Ameera |
