The Public and Ramadan

The public must be coming more aware of our holiday...

Saturday I got home from shopping and there was a message on my answering machine. It was from a man running for a seat on city council wishing us a Happy Ramadan!

Last night Ali and I went to lookoutpoint to sight the moon. It was a cloudy drizzly day, but there were spots of clear sky. I felt bad for him because for the last 3 years we did not go. It has always been cloudy!

So there we were, and all of a sudden a cop came. As he was approaching I am getting a bit nervous, knowing that we are at a higher alert and here are two Muslims with binoculars overlooking the city and mall. Never mind the fact it is an out of the way place for the police...maybe at midnight ... no, but yes... at 5 in the afternoon!

So he pulls up and asks if we need any help. I said no, thanks we are Muslims and are looking to sight the new moon. I can't imagine what he was thinking as he looked up into the now totally cloudy sky.

I motioned over to Ali in a "I know it is cloudy but the kid was looking forward to this." kind of look.

He actually understood, said ok just want to make sure you were ok and left!

Subhannah Allah.

We never did see the moon... but want to send our wishes to all for a very blessed Ramadan... don't forget the kids!
