Is it just me or Hotmail and Yahoo! have started showing more seducive ladies in their ads ???

Here is a tip for the brothers to turn their images off (if they want to) while checking Yahoo! or Hotmail acounts.

Go to: Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced -> and uncheck "Show pictures" option in the "Multimedia" section. (You can turn the image back ON when you are done there)

I dont have Netscape installed, can anyone post the settings for it?

Sisters can do the same for the occasional "hunk" ads

and we can always lower our gaze inshaAllah.

Wa'alaikum Assalam wa Rahmatullah,

Whereas u can change the settings on ur PC, you can't change the settings on every other computer, like I frequently check my mails from the library. Although, I still have addresses on hotmail and yahoo, I also have one on Islamway.net for this particular reason that I want to avoid hotmail and yahoo as much as possible specially during Ramadan. Also, Islamway gives u much more space (15 MB) than Hotmail  (2 MB) and yahoo (6 MB). But, anyways, JazaakAllah khair for the tip, since its very helpful for computer illiterates like me  :).

Wassalam.

Webmail providers like hotmail and yahoo have a LOT at stake in their systems.  Islamway.com, or any other small-time host for that matter, can't match the uptime and reliability offered by hotmail/yahoo.  Plus, both of them have lot of support tools.

There are other better OS independent options to block the ads:

Use opera.  It has a button right on the top to toggle pics.  I am sure mozilla/firebird has a similar extension too.
Use email clients/tools, like outlook and the yahoo pops software (thx dhameer).
Extreme solution: Get an IP list of known ad servers (yes, the adds are being served from another website) and map them to 0.0.0.0 in the hosts file.  You'll never see ads again (well, for a considerable period at least).  This works for pr0n also.  There is a massive list of known ad/pr0n websites available online for this specific purpose.  I can post links to the list (text format) if requested.
happy surfin  :)
