| [slm] Apparently the website is getting so much traffic that the server can't handle it :( So we're going to look into our options inshaAllah.. either to move to a new webhost (or two) or to try to minimize the amount of bandwith by redesigning the site. So we'll see inshaAllah. |

| Salaams, I thought about this, you get rioughly 2,000 hits a day??? Don't yah... the main crunch of the hits could be the board. Re-design the board as your web pages are ok and fairly static. Yabb takes up a lot of bandwith. You can try invisionboard or phbb a lot faster, less bandwidh and a lot smoother. Check out www.opensourcecms.com for evaluations. I'd go for phpbb but thats me. | [wlm] I think u'r right the board takes up about 50% of the traffic..and 1.5 gigs a day in transfer is wayyyyyy too much so i'm going to try to minimize the graphics on the board.. move large audio files elsewhere and see what else i can tweak.. and definitely consider phpbb.. inshallah we'll try to make it work :) and i totally panicked when the sister asked me how many unique visitors i get i have no idea.. haven't done them in a year.. but look at least years statistics!! yikes (Figures in parentheses refer to the 7-day period ending 13-Dec-2002 03:36). | Jannah I have a question, some days I only check the board once and other days I check don't check it at all. (But that is seldom) However if I am home sewing I might take a break every hour or two and by the end of the day I may have not logged in all those times but maybe 8 to 10 times in a day I was a lurker :o and will sign on if I see something to reply to. My question is this, if I do it and say 10 or 20 others do it (10 to 20 out of 1,000 members, that is like 100 to 200 (as I think you call them ) hits a day. Would it help if we limited our visits? Just visit once or twice a day? Or is the matter of actual posts that take up the space? Or is it a combination of hits and posts? What can we members do to help ease this overload? Thank you |

| [wlm] You don't have to do anything inshaAllah. We want people to post and read and learn from each other. If people can cut down on non-essential posts I think is the only thing.. like posts that say "thanx" or "one liners"... if they're directed to a specific person use madina mail. The changes I made already make a difference so it's all good :) |
