Chechens are living in horrid, over-crowded conditions in tents and makeshift homes, scattered across Ingushetia and Chechnya. Others are forced to live in cattle sheds and old railway carriages. Humanitarian assistance is an essential lifeline. Islamic Relief Worldwide has been helping the Chechens since 1995, providing food, clean water, shelter and medical care. As winter approaches, Chechens have a new challenge: survival in the bitter cold weather. Life in refugee camps becomes even more difficult when faced with freezing temperatures.
