As Salaam'Alaykum Sisters and Brothers

Four books in my children's Islamic book series have been published. The books are listed at www.iUniverse.com select author and type Delgado in the search window.

Please visit my website.. www.IslamicRose.com and order the books direct.. you get my autograph and bookmarker!

At my site there is a Featured Authors page with the biography and book information for  eight newely published Islamic authors.

In December, I will be posting 61 stories from children 5th-8th grade attending two different Islamic schools. I taught a creative writing class on Islamic stories and sponsored a writing contest for the kids.  their stories will be posted as they wrote them!

I have a page for poets.. where new poetry is posted for visitors to enjoy also.. Poems are welcome...email me.

Five of my book chatracters each have a page and there are fun things to do like exploring Muslim/non-Muslim countries, astronomy, rock hounding, embroidery  and a page with links to Islamic sites of benefit to all Muslims.

The books are chapter books.. no pictures and many adults have read and enjyed them so they are not just for kids.  The new revert will gain much benefit from them and the non-Muslim too!

Visit my site.. read about my books and then let me know what you think!

For writers and authors (female) I have an egroup... Islamic Writers at Yahoo.  Interested writers and authors.. please join our active group of 24 members.  We are a working group and have formed an alliance to promote and help one another in marketing and promoting our published work. Hope I hear from some of you..and don't forget to visit my website

Folks, you have to check this one out. Islamic Rose books are fun, wholesome and educational. We need more Islamic-fiction titles like these as alternatives to the crapy literature some of our children are reading these days.

Personally, I'm hooked to the books. I think even adults, especially those who are new to or clueless about Islam, will benefit from reading them. Great way to do da'wah as well, so you can get them for your children's non-Muslim friends or even yours!

Well done, Sis Widad, and all the best in your writing career.

As Salaam'alaykum Deb and Salinah

Thanks for your vote of confidence and visiting!

I appreciate the kind words about my new book series.  Allah willing I will get Books 5 and 6 completed in the next six months to add to the series.

What do you think about a Hijab-Ez doll collection based on the book characters?  thinking about it.

<<What do you think about a Hijab-Ez doll collection based on the book characters?  thinking about it.>>

That reminds me of Madonna and her English Roses. I read sometime last week that they're coming up with dolls based on the four characters in her book...a collaboration with Mattel or something.

I'm not sure if you should take the same path, though. There's already the range of Razanne dolls--Muslimah version of Barbie. Heard/saw it before? I know your dolls will be more culturally diverse and that may make them special. But I'm not a "doll person", and neither are my sons.  Books are our thing.  ;D

Do let us know once you've released Books 5 and 6. All the best!

Wassalaam,
Salinah

As Salaam'alaykum

It is mainly my grand daughter Cassy (Islamic Rose) who is asking for me to make the doll collection!

The other day she told me I must keep writing books for the series until she gets just a little older, then she will take over writing the books for the series!

She can write, too and what an imagination...all the planning she does and suggesting different ways to end the books.. or chapters, etc.

She is now in the 6th grade.. but reads and writes at the 9.5 grade level.

She helps me plan out the chapters and  "reviews" my outlines etc.

She will also tell me when I write something that doesn't "fit"  She'll say something like, "Gramms, a kid wouldn't say it that way." or "Kids don't think like that."  then I'll ask her.. what would you say or do.. she'll tell me and then tell me a nother way to say or do it or how her freinds might say or do something!

She's my little gold mine!

She is alos my toughest critic when it comes to "editing" the content!

thanks again for your interest.

I think it's wonderful learning about Islam and Muslims through the eyes of a little girl. Children are generally more open-minded and less prejudiced than we adults are. Not to mention they're so curious about everything!

Congratulations on a job well done, Sis Widad. It's a fabulous idea to involve your granddaughter in the process--the stories read naturally, especially the conversations. I hope your books will do well and will certainly tell others about them.

Allah bless you.

Widad, out of curiosity, why did you make the covers so plain, especially a childrens book?

I recently opened up a library at the masjid and notice the kids only take books that have vibrant/exciting covers.

As Salaam'alaykum Kathy

The covers look "plain" on a web page.  When you see the book... the colors are vibrant....glossy and together..the books look like a rainbow.  When I add books 5 and 6... even more so.  Everyone who has bought the books has told me how beautiful they look.

The designin the squares and the silver blue bands make the other colors stand out.

The label in the center is the label I will use on other products. it is my hope that the readers will come to love the Hijab-Ez charactes... (see my website).. I plan to create a doll for each book character, buttons, pencils with the label and possibly t-shirts etc.

As a Muslim I did not want to use in persons or figures of animals etc.  My choice was a landscape or something distinctive to my business "islamic Rose Books"  I sell my books and promote and sell other sisters' books also at all my book signing events.

Finally.. my books are nopt like other children's books.  they are written at a level that a 9 year old can understand, but any adult will find them interesting and engrossing too!

The children reading my books are transitioning out of picture books into more adult-books...my books are Chapter books.. and most chapter books ddon't have pictures... the writer has to paint the picture in words for the reader. A bigger challenge when done for "older children"

The rainbow of colors of my books represents the diversity of colors that Allah created in us human beings. Everything about the books has a significance to me...

I hope I have explained well-enough to you.

Thank you for asking and all I can add is, if you buy one or all.. you will see how beautiful they look and how eye-catching the colors are. *smiling*
