Promoting Islam Using Communication Medium Subhanallah, technology has made great advancements, from the introduction of TV and radio in the early 1900’s. Today, Muslim Organisations are readily using the latest technology to promote deen. The thought of running a Islamic radio station 20 years ago would have been a pipe dream faced with the huge costs of expenses (i.e. licences, manning equipment etc). Yet today we can easily access a multitude of radio stations that are readily available not only in the UK but worldwide. At present there are around 30 Ramadan radio stations dedicated for Muslims around the UK (for a full list see the bottom of our email). One of the prime leaders in Radio for Muslims is Radio Ramadhan, based in London on 89.7FM and also aired on the Internet. The programme has a host of topics ranging from local to international issues affecting Muslims. There is something for everyone to relate, you can hear the eagerness of the children talking about Islam, trying to speak as much as possible within the allocated time or you can hear them reciting the Quran in a beautiful qirat. This only gives way to other children to ring into the station and share their experience of Islam. There are talks by scholars, sisters on health issues and even some naats for the older generation. There is an added advantage being aired on the internet allowing users to take part on a discussion board. Muslims have also employed technology by using TV to promote dawah, a good example being Shaykh Hamzah Yousuf, the rector of Zaytuna Institute, talking about Islam, its contributions to society etc. on MBC channel 822. Another is Vectone, Urdu channel 828 aired everyday from 10-11pm by Mufti Barakatullah and others, Mufti Barakatullah is the senior imam at Finchley Masjid, North London and a graduate of India’s most prestigious Islamic university, Deoband Darul Room. In the USA, one of the most successful Muslim TV channel is Bridges TV. The show in the first couple of months has captured the hearts and minds of not only Muslims but also non Muslims. A channel showing the real picture of Muslims as who they really are, not some fabricated script by a hostile media channel showing bearded Muslims bombing stuff.. Bridges TV has shown a positive image of Islam, educating others of what Islam really teaches, thus easing tensions and laying the foundation to building a truly tolerant society in America. We are grateful to One Above allowing Muslims making effective use of technology and continue to do so. We hope Muslims in the UK can learn from Bridges TV and strive forward to host a positive TV channel. Especially after 9,11, the recent war in Afghanistan and Iraq these unfortunate events has spiked an increase in the search for Islam amongst Muslims and non Muslims. Yes we have Al-Jazeera, Al-Arabiya and other channels but a Muslim media channel in the UK for the people of the UK is needed and would be trail blazing. For example lets look into the Non Muslims - Qadianis, they have their own satellite channel on XXX that is beamed not only in the UK but around the world. They have a scholar who recites a certain verse of their prayer book and refers to this book as the Quran when it is clearly not. We Muslims can chant Non Muslim, till we are blue in the face yet they have used a certain technology to promote their version of dawah and sadly it is working very well to their advantage. If Muslims want to challenge this and other untoward action then we need to think and act as a community how we can turn the rising tide against us. Let’s get together and do something positive today. We, at Muslim Professionals will support any Muslim group or organisation that wishes to promote this form of medium. Get in touch and let us work together for building a community that is dedicated to lift the deen. Salaams, Muslim Professionals p.s. Don't forget to mention Muslim Professionals when calling your local radio station!. [slm] From listening to an advert on our local Radio Ramadhan, there seems to be a Islamic TV channel starting up soon in a few weeks inshaAllah. InshaAllah it will be a better representation of actual muslims, rather then the so-called existing one. Another step for Muslims..lets hope a good one inshaAllah [wlm] |
