As I'm aging  ;) and still remain unmarried, it's amusing to me when aunties volunteer info on what I can do to hurry up and get hitched  :D.

However, actually quite a few ppl have recommended to read Durood Shariff 11 times, then Sura Mumtahina 11 times, then Durood Shariff again 11 times.   Has anyone else ever heard of this before??  I'm wondering if there is legitimacy to this claim.

Or any other things anyone else has heard of??   :-*

I would stay away from those types of things where people say to read this X number of times or do this X number of times to get this unless there are clear hadith for it.

I get lots of (unwanted) advice from aunties as well. My new tactic in general is to stay away from them, but when cornered.. to smile, murmur something or other and run away... it's the only thing that works..!!  :-/

Indeed our trials and tribulations are either a test or a punishment from Allah (SWT). Imho, being unmarried, regardless of gender, is one of the trials/tribulations. What has been the tariqa of the Prophet  [saw] and the Sahaba (RA) regarding the trials/tribulations? Well, it is very simple, look inwards first, i.e., have we done or doing something which is inviting Allah's anger? For most vanilla muslims like myself, we can quickly find a host of sins that we can get rid of and indeed Allah (SWT) is most compassionate and most forgiving.

Engaging in 'ibadah and zikr is the most effective way of begging from Allah (SWT). Indeed we are all beggars and Allah (SWT) alone is Ghani. The best nafl 'ibadah is of tahajjud, you can search the web for its excellence. Its difficult on the nafs, but the rewards are far far greater. Especially in Ramadan, it's very easy to wake up half an hour earlier before your usual suhoor preparation time. Long rakaahs and long duas are a sure fire way of getting needs fulfilled.

Zikr of Allah (SWT) is commanded in the quran "standing, sitting, and while lying on your sides", and as the scholars of Islam have explained, all 'ibadah are time-limited except zikr. Closeness to Allah is through excessive zikr and what better friend to have then the Lord himself, the Provider of all. Remember that this is bonus month, the more zikr the better. Read Quran and recite the kalimah often. Check with your local Imam/Scholar for other masnoon adhkar.

Now that is not all there is to it. You can perform salaat of Ishraq, Duhu, Awwabin, etc. You can make Istighfar often. Remember that old friend whom you haven't talk to after the last spat, why not try silah rahmee for a change? Etc., etc., etc. You never know what deed is going to make it to the desired level.

Allah (SWT) and the angels send salaam on the Prophets, so why shouldn't we be doing the same. Interesting article on the excellence of salaam and salawat on the Prophet  [saw]:
