| I want to be a teacher but I'm scared of the kids! |

| [slm] I have a dilemma. I'm currently in the midst of applying for teacher training and was quite looking forward to a career in teaching; inspiring the children to better themselves and work hard.....but then I entered a school! it was a nerve-wracking terrifying experience and my mouth already dry from fasting became more parched than the sahara desert. I was there getting some experience under my belt and was acting as a reader helper for 11yr old kids. The school is mostly Asian and muslim which may have been some comfort if I hadn't been so overwhelmed. And those kids sure are cheeky. I certainly didn't behave that way when I was younger! So I was wondering if there was any words of advice or comfort any bros or sis cud give. There has to some teachers on this board, we're a very diverse group of peeps. I'm a fragile soul and a bit nervy. Although when I get into my stride I can be all kinds of confident. So am I cut out for teaching? [] |

| oohh sis its ok i feel so sorry 4 u ..u no be confident when ur at skool coz students ( being one of them) don't mess around with a teacher who looks confident an bold type ...be friendly but not too personal type coz it only works temporarily ...an i guess be urself ........ ya ino ...LAME ADVICE...but worth a try ppl :-/ |

| [slm] Hey, relaxxxx. It all comes with practice.....just nurture an interest in promoting learning activity....They will train you to do the teaching part. I am currently on the PGCE course and yes ramadhan makes it a little harder but then it is rewarding and you pick up sarcasm and phrases like..... Would you like me to talk through your break time or will you pay attention for one more minute ??? Well if you would like me to make you stand in the corner like the naughty children in nursery then I will be happy to do that. etc etc. Insha'allah you will be a good teacher. [wlm] :-) ps I am at a catholic school and I teach them Islam for R.E as well as my main subject ;D |

| [slm] Thanks for the advice sisters. Sr Yumna all advice is welcome, it ain't lame! Sr Zara, it's interesting to hear the perspective of a teacher. I think i might have to seek out some teachers to find out what it's really like. It's cool that you teach Islam in R.E. I went to the school again yesterday and thankfully it was a lot better although I was late. I might be reverting back into school mode. ;) My nerves are slipping away now. I read with this one girl who's so nice and she wears hijab Mashallah! And I'll make sure to think of some sarky remarks just in case they get out of line! ;D |
