Friends with long Memories....

Gotta tell you all about a miracle that happened to me yesterday. I know miracle is a strong and often misused word... so perhaps I shall call it an ayat...a sign...

Sunday night was a tough night for me. I belong to an Interfaith group and am there to offer the Islamic viewpoint. Each month we go to one of the member's home.

The topic of the night's discussion was a story from the book "Daughters of the Desert." It was the story of Khadijah and her husband Prophet Muhammad [saw] during the first revelation in the cave, Hira.

I got irritated because a woman of a different faith just had to have it at her house, because she was going on vacation next month. So as we were discussing Lalayt'al Qadr (which by the way ... the cave we built and bowing trees was a hit at the Masjid), I was sitting there all figedty.

For may reasons I was uncomfortable. One... I would have much prefered to have this month's discussion at my home, which is decorated for our holiday.  Also she had three million artifacts and idols all over her home, and amongst them we are discssing Prophet Muhammad [saw]. I was thinking how much better it would have been if we were at my home surrounded by ayats on the walls.

The worst fear... I would just be mortified if it was the Night of Power/ Blessings... and here I sit, in a den of false god heads.

Then they announce, because of the schedule change.... next month will be at my house... yick... Christmas time... at my house. I was trying to think how this was going to go over on my hubby. The subject/ story was going to be about Mary and the birth...from a woman's perspective.

As the forum leader announced that, I immediately thought about a piece of Lennox I saw in a store last year. If you remember, I spoke of it on this board. It was gorgeous.. and oh what a dawh piece it would have been for Muslims, especially at this time of year. It is a date palm tree, laden with dates and under it is a stream of water.  Almost exactly the discription given of the place of Mary's labor in the Qur'an.

I was thinking about it and of the many ways I tried to buy it..but it was so out of my price range. At one point three of us decided we would all go in and purchase it and then rotate it to each others homes. I mean it is that cool of a dawah piece! But we all had kids...and decided it was too risky.

The day after Christmas I dragged my hubby to the store at 6 in the morining to get the now reduced 75% Date Palm Tree...and to my dismay... they said they never reduce this kind of Lennox. It was already sent back. sigh...

So I never got it. It was on line... but food on the table has always taken top priority as well as all the dawah/Masjid work I do...

So I was thinking about this piece, first time in a long time and thinking about next months meeting.

The next morning UPS was at the door. A very generous brother from this board sent Ali a new Eid outfit (Jazak Allahu Khirun). I was expecting that package but the driver had another.

As I was opening it up.. I thought could it be? No? It was light, the box was the same color... I began sobbing like a baby. Then told myself that I was being ridiculus... Some one was sending me scarves for the Museum display we do here. But then I thought to ask Allah for it. Sadly, I never think highly enough of myself to "bother" Allah swt for something I would like. So I just said to myself go ahead, this one time and said Bismillah...

Subhana Allah... It was the Scene! It was the very one I had hoped for! Again I began sobbing.. gotta admit... I have never cried tears of happiness before over a gift!

Inside the card read...

Oh Sis Kathy,

I am touched too and very happy for you.  Subhannallah!  Allah works his miracles, for this is definitely a miracle!  Your heart was in the right place and your humbleness paid off (you never ask Allah for anything for yourself).

Will this cover the meeting at your place during Christmas?  Does this mean that you are now comfortable having this meeting and you are armed for it Islamically?

All the best, INSHA-ALLAH.

Halima
