Ooooooooo. Nice post. I like hearing about clothes. Well, I wore a long khaki colored skirt and a black long sleeved shirt that is hard to explain but I will try my best. It has like red roses and khaki colored flowers (like my skirt) and pretty green leaves. The way it is cut on the bottom is weird, it  ends a little past my hip and then is cut on a diagonal and the other side ends at about mid thigh. I hope that wasn't too confusing.

But when I went to the masjid for Eid, I wore my abaya.

In the morning I wore a black skirt, a white collared shirt, and a charcoal sweater, simply because I had to run to school after to do a presentation.  With a pink hijaab (that combination needed some color)

Then I wore a dusty pink raw silk shalwar kameez, with a boot leg "shalwar" and a shorter kurta which I bought from Islamabad and got an awesome deal for (PRs. 1100)...It has very simple bead work on the hem of the flared sleeves and the flared pants, and the neckline, and some stuff up front.

I wuv pink.

For Eid Prayers I wore a black velvet dress with a gold beaded jacket over it. I think I was the only woman who was not freezing! this is not the time to make a fat joke!

For Eid dinner I wore a maroon red velvet dress, highly decorated with silver beading. It was given to me by my mother in law a few years back and I just like wearing it, for sentimental reasons. I also wear this dress when i do the puppet shows at schools, for the kiddies to see.

One cute thing, a sister had donated alot of her clothing a week or so ago. So many of us were wearing her scarves, ehm... way out of our budgets... It was a win win siutation, we loved them and she said she was having a great time remenicing about the events she had worn them for!

So for those of you who hesitate at donating your clothes..don't! I felt like a real princess!

as salaamu alaykum,

I wore this peach colored jilbab-type thing.. it had really cute flower embroidery stuff on the front, all the way down to the ankles.. with a cream colored hijab..

for the eid dinner this weekend I'm gonna wear a maroon shalwar kameez that I got at ISNA.. it's cool because the top is looong, to like mid-calf (rare for me to find since I'm tall).. and most of the work is on the bottom part of the kamees, so you can actually see it when you wear hijab :)  I also have some cute matching bangles  8)

For the first day of Eid, it is common here for families to wear traditional outfits of the same colour.  For the Eid solah I wore my dark blue abaya.  Later we went out in pink.  Me hubby and Wafi wore very very soft pink satin Malay men garments and Solehah and I wore traditional Malay dresses.  The top dress was long till just above the knee and was deep pink and the bottom long skirt was in the same shade of pink as the guys :) Solehah wore deep salmon pink hijab with lil cherries embroidered around the edge and I wore soft light pink beaded hijab.

Pink is in!!  lol, see even the guys are wearing it ;)

ummWafi, that sounds absolutely beautiful...I was looking through some fashion statements from your part of the world, and they are so gorgeous.  I think I need to drop by to do some shopping.  Okay okay, there's other reasons, too.  But right now, I can't remember em.

Wa'alaikumussalam warahmatullah :)

Hmmm.. men in pink .. YOu got a thing going in there, Ummwafi ;)

Alhamdulillah, I wore a China Silk off-white baju kurung (the same kinda Malay outfit that Ummwafi wore) that has beautiful soft embroidery throughout the blouse, made up of sweet purple-lilac flowers but the long skirt is plain. I simply loved it. And I matched it with a buttersilk white scarf :)

But for the Eid dinner @ the Istana (palace in Malay), I put on this oblong scarf that has got colour gradations, from very very light liliac to purple.

I'm gonna wear the same thing for Eidul Adha, inshaALlah :)

InshaAllah, for the EId gathering this Sat, I'll wear my soft, soft light pastel green silk chiffon baju kurung, with embroidery and beaded stuff.. Its actually a sari material.
I hope to find a matching scarf soon, inshaALlah...

So.. inshaAllah, my last Eid in Singapore.. I finally got myself proper traditional clothes. Thanks to my mom, who coerced me to do some shopping (@ her expense ;))

Wassalam!

Well mummy made my shalwaar Kameez - I also have the problem of finding kameezes which are long enough, or have sleeves which come past my writsts, so i tend to have them made for me. Dull grey/silver colour base material with silver bits on the kamees and bottom of the shalwaar.

I have got to agree with Jannah accessories are vital....don't get me started on bangles i love them - not plastic but the glass ones when i go to pakistan i always come back with boxes and boxes of them every colour and style u can imagine..... to match with everything....and i have just started getting into hand bags too.. ::) (used to hate carrying them.... :P)

When I was really young, we used to live with my grandma on my fathers side. She used to have this hideous couch, it was a sort of beige with big brown flowers all over it, this was the eighties and I imagine the couch may have been the height of sophistication or the cheapest thing on the market as daddi amma et al were poor immigrants....

Why am I telling you this?? Well usually hubby and I go out before Ramadan and he buys me an Eid outfit, this year Ramadan crept up on us and we didn't get a chance to do the shopping. So two weeks before the end of Ramadan I ask hubby to go out and get me an outfit, one he likes as generally he has great taste (he married me didn't he :P).

Hubby returned from shopping trip with what can only be described as the cover of my grandmothers old couch..... So what did I wear on Eid please see description above...
When I found out how much he'd paid for the material I nearly fainted.... Yikes the man is frugal to my extravagant, why he saw fit to pay anything let alone that much for something so ugly I'll never know.

I'm hoping the shalwar Kameez gets mangled in the washing machine or perhaps it will accidentally find it's way into the bag of clothes to be given away...

Before anyone starts I told my husband I loved the outfit, he believed me because he's a man and they take everything at face value.... Actually I'm being evil, I will keep it and if he likes me in it I will jolly well wear it...and pray nobody visits me that day... ::)

Fatima looked beautiful though.

This was the first year alhamdullilah my ten year old fasted the entire month so we went all out for Eid.

She had on a really pretty abaya mashaAllah, blue with a gradient from light blue to navy, the reversable kind black on inside the blue on outside. It has a hijab to match and underneath she wore her favorite new jeans with blue embroidery and a long blue shirt. Blue boots and she was ready to go.

I had on blue also, a blue silk skirt with subtle flowers in blue and green and grey, a dark blue tunic top and a raw silk long jacket with no buttons, kind of like a kimono. Dark blue hijab and my navy loafers (I went for comfort not style on the feet.)

Alhamdullilah we had a really great time and she was very happy to be with her friends and family on Eid and so was her Umm.

I wore a kalaf shalwar kameez (one made of cotton that is heavily starched) - felt like I was wearing a piece of cardboard lol :P

The salwar was scarlet :o (a very different colour for me), the kameez was a beige-y colour with scarlet velvet trim around the neckline and sleeves.  It also had little mirrors embroidered round in yellow and green embroidered flowers along the neckline, down the middle of the kameez and on the sleeve.  And the dupatta was four colours blue fading into green to yellow and scarlet.  When we went to the masjid I had to wear a big black woollen coat ('cos it was freeeezing).

*Sigh* a very colourful and now over eid.

Hey Baji - now that you carry your own handbags - think u can stop putting things in mine :P
