[slm],

I have another question, I kept forgetting to ask about. My husband says we can't or shouldn't move our right foot durring the prayer. Is this right?

No, I mean the right foot. He says not to move it well the toes, that you shouldn't move the foot from place to place. And I don't want anyone thinking I'm wandering about the place durring the prayer...But he says it has to be on the floor all the time.
What about the right finger though?

Well that's a good question and I heard the same long time ago but hasn't read any hard and fast rule in Islam regarding that. In fact contrarily we are allowed to walk few steps while praying for instance there are only two people and they start praying while one of them is leading the prayer. The one who is following is not supposed to stand in second row but just one or two steps behind the first one but if the third person joins them then he can pull the second person to second row and they can pray in proper congregation.

I think what your husband must be saying is that we shouldn't fold our right foot while sitting in prayer. That's sunnah and you can see it's graphical presentation on Islamonline.net but if you are unable to follow it either due to overweight or anyother reason then there are exceptions to that rule. But we must try I remember when I started praying I was not able to make it and used to fold both of my feet while sitting but gradually I got over the problem.

Sis. Missy,

The general rule is that you should try to be still in your prayers.  It is said that some of the companaions were so still during their prayers that birds would sit on thier heads.

As-salaamu alaykum wa rahmatullah, Missy  :)

Hope you're doing well, insha'Allah.

I don't know anything about not moving the right foot, either, Allahu A'lim.

Aas already mentioned, stillness (ie, not fidgeting, moving around outside of the prescribed movements of prayer, etc) is recommended while in prayer.

Allahu A'lim.

Missy, according the Sidi Faraz Rabbani @ http://sunnipath.com, your husband is correct, at least according to the Hanafi madhab.

Below is the Q&A on the topic (I'm not sure if it only applies to men or to men & women).

Question: Could you please confirm for me the following rulings?

1] I have heard that Sh. Ibn Abideen (r) has mentioned in his Hashiyya that keeping both feet on the ground in all the prayer is wajib whilst if one were to remove one foot it would Makruh-e-tanzihi (slighty disliked), and this is the strongest position, i mean could you check the hashiyya for us please, etc.?

Answer:

This opinion has not been correctly understood. It is disliked to lift a foot off the ground without reason in the prayer.

 In prostration, it is:

·        Obligatory (fard) to place any part of one toe of one foot on the ground, even if only for a moment

·        Necessary (wajib) to place any part of one toe of both feet on the ground, even if only for a moment

·        It would be disliked to lift one or both feet off the ground without reason, though doing so does not invalidate the prayer. Mufti Mahmoud Usmani and Shaykh Adibboth stated that there is no basis for this belief, as the texts are clear on this point, and it just rises out of a misreading of the texts or pious ignorance.

·        A confirmed sunna to point one’s toes towards the qibla.

Also having a part of one foot on the ground throughout the prayer is a Fard?

The only way this would not be true [is] if you jumped. Jumping is excessive action, which invalidates prayer.

Wassalam,
Faraz Rabbani
