I want to prove to my non hijabi family members that u can still look nice with hijab. Inshallah it will attract some of them to start. Khelp please.  :-)

[slm] sis,
for the indian style clothes mentioned in those posts you can try jackson heights queens which i believe is 74th or 75th streets in queens .. F train to roosevelt avenue i believe dont quote me! Or richmond hill queens ... lots of stores there also.  In manhattan there are a few ..very few shops between around 28th street and lexington avenue( 6 train).

For a more arab flair.. not sure a friend once mentioned brooklyn but i'm not sure where in brooklyn.

note: you can also look nice in a lovely cut long cardigan sweater coat (go dow nto the knee or whatever) , loose fitting slacks that fit but are cut loosely a nice blouse and some killer boots w/hijab:)

much love
lala

jackson heights is the best place to go.. but beware anything really fashionable and nice will cost you 200+ bux an outfit.. but there's always sales and other 'regular' type clothes around there too. also know that you MUST bargain.. i would say go there with a desi friend who knows how to shop....

for arabish outfits go to atlantic avenue in brooklyn.. they have nice stuff too

7 why u gotta copycat my post!!!  ???

HAN Enterprises are serious (trust us) about making available a website where that TWO HUNDRED (man i can't breathe!!) bucks one will be available @ 50$ (around) and the other stuff @ around 15-20$.

Oldskools and Oldskools of Oldskools will have the privelege to get first pay later (wow, i want one now). It can be reference based even.

Only condition would be "clothes are us" i.e. all of you will give priority to our place over any other, otherwise it'll be lotsa effort with less or no return.

Do we have a deal then?

Br. Nomi if you're serious I'm there, will you be selling only punjabi outfits or Arabic style too, I could help out if you needed a supplier for the latter style.

Wassalaam

PS is it just me or does the colour scheme look kinda different???

That made me want to laugh:) Alot of Afghanis are hijabis while some are not, just like muslims from other ethnicities.

How do they dress as hijabis? Well if you're wondering about traditional dress, here are some pictures (check out the links below), though the girls in these pictures dont have their heads covered the clothes they're wearing are some typical examples of really traditional afghani dress, they also wear salwar-kameez. Going back to the original question - how do they dress as hijabis here in north america, just like all the other hijabis:-)

Sister Aurora, those dresses are nice but too fang dangly out on a regular day.  :D
I just noticed how each ethnic group have their own unique style but with afghans, besides the burqa, there arent too many outfits distinguishably afghan, that u can wear on a regular day. Or maybe i just havent been exposed to it ???

Hmm I see what you're getting at. I think you've been exposed to it, just haven't noticed it  ;)

Well their traditional dress is the salwar kameez, and in those links you saw the type worn at celebrations. The frock type kameez that is usually matched up with a shalwar thats gathered at the bottom. The kind in the pictures like you said are kinda 'fang dangly' for a regular day. Afghans usually wear salwar kameez, more westernized Afghans will tend to wear western apparel.

HAN Enterprise *is* serious! Arab dresses wont be that much of a problem, i can ask my "langotia" in UAE to send me whats in these days and what do you really mean by a supplier? Like ppl come at our site to shop, we send you the stuff, you deliver it to them?

That can also be worked out but what i meant was that the *long* list of ppl who i can easily trust on the board can order from the website, it can even be cut/stitct to fit thingy, and recieve the product and then pay for it. Again it'll work out if *trust-list* shows interest and their contacts buy from the site through them as well.

Did i make sense?
[slm]

ps. you 2 are in the *trust-list*

ps2. hurry up ppl, i'm left with 8 posts only!
