[slm],
In India they are circumsised any where between 0-7 years generally 4-5 years being the mean
And, until few years back, without anaesthesia. They have made it too easy nowadays. My youngest brother had it fairly easy I guess. Wassalam |

[slm] The earlier the better. My nephew was done at five weeks, this particular dr doesn't do it any later, he was under local anaesthetic, but when he cried anytime during the following fortnight we (Me, sisters, brother, BIL, my parents) all decided it was because he was in pain from the op.... Turned out my sister kept putting his nappy on too loosely (scared she might hurt him otherwise) and he kept getting wet... ::) Alhumdulillah to be a woman :D Wassalaam |

Here in Africa and among the Muslim communities (regardless of tribe), some do it at birth and some at various stages of childhood. So, it depends on the wish of the parents. My sons: Mahad at age 4 Haroun at age 7 Halima |

I know the Bible speaks of doing it on the 8th day. And some years ago I read a study that had nothing to do with the Bible, It was medical and scientific and mentioned that a certain chemical or hormone or something releases in an infant about the 8th day after they are born having something to do with pain relief and infection. I was kind of amazed, but always had sons done before they came home from the hospital, the thought of putting an older child through it makes me shudder :o :'( But I know other countries have other customs. 4 to 7 and 7 to 10, :o I am curious, how does one explain having that done to a child that age and did they go through much pain? I imagine infants go through the same pain it is just less of a guilt trip for us moms if they can't tell us it hurts. I am soooooo glad I am a female ;) But in saying that I can't help but wonder But are we trading one pain for another Childbirth for circumsium ;) |

Malaysia moots cross-cultural circumcision By Jonathan Kent BBC, Kuala Lumpur Malaysia is to consider using mass circumcision ceremonies to promote racial harmony. Circumcision is a rite of passage for young Muslim boys, and in Malaysia it is common for the ceremony to become an event with dozens, or even hundreds of boys being circumcised together. Now the prime minister's religious affairs adviser has suggested that circumcision can bring Malaysians of all races and religions together. Dr Abdul Hamid Othman said that with the growing popularity of circumcision among the country's non-Muslim minorities - who see it as good hygienic practice - they too could be invited to join in the celebrations with their Muslim friends. He believes the idea could promote better race relations and he wants to see a nationwide circumcision ceremony organised. Just over half of Malaysia's population is Muslim, mainly members of the ethnic Malay community, while the country's Chinese, Tamil and tribal peoples follow a variety of other faiths. The government has been exploring ways of stopping the different groups from drifting apart, including the introduction of a national service scheme which begins in February. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/3326861.stm |
