Six  Days  Fasting   of  SHAWAL

SHAWAL. is  the month  right  next to   Ramdan .It is  recommended to  fast  six  days  in this month .   It  is  not  compulsary  but  is  very  important
I  liked to  make clear  if   any  of   us  has some   misunderstanding    to  the way  of  fasting .  somebody  has asked today  ,after  the ASER  in the  prayers  in the  mosque   ,if  its  is  must  to  fast right  after  the  first   day  of  EID  is  over ? This why  I    like d  to  bring  it  here

This  ignorance    make some  people stop  fasting  if they  are not  able to fast  the   day  next to the first day  of  EEDa nd  if  they  won't  be able as well , to  fast  consecutve days , . thinking  this  is the way  it  has  to  be done .

To  make  it  clear

The   way  to  fast is optional  according  to the  abilty  of the  person  .It can  be be  started  at any  day  of  shawal  and be  ended  at  any day, provided it brings total  of  six  days .

For any one who  has  such  misunderstading   and has  the  intention  to  fast,   it is   a good  news for you to  catch  it  as we  have  more  than  half of  SHAWAL  left
as  for  its  imprtance , the  prophet  [saw] said

WHO  FASTS  THE  MONTH OF RAMADAN AND  SIX DAYS  OF  SHAWAL  I S AS  IF  HE  HAS FASTED  THE  WHOLE  YEAR

It is calculated this  way

we know every  HASANAH (good  job) is  multiplied  by  ten.
So 1MONTH  of  ramadan  mutiplied  by  10  Equals  to  10   months

6  days  of shawal  multiplied by  10  brings  60 days

60  days = 2 months
Therefor  we  have  10 months   over  there  plus  2  months
which  brings  total  of  12 months
This  is   how   it  corresponds  to  a  year's  effort

Question :

What should a woman do first: fast the six recommended days of Shawwal ( Alayam Alsetta Albeed) or fast equivalent to the days she missed in Ramadan due to her monthly period?

Answer :

Praise be to Allaah.

If she wants to earn the reward mentioned in the hadeeth of the Prophet  (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), “Whoever fasts Ramadaan then follows it with six days of Shawwaal, it will be as if he fasted for a lifetime” (reported by Muslim, no. 1984), then she should complete her Ramadaan fasts first, then follow it with six days of Shawwaal, so that the hadeeth with be applicable to her too, and she will gain the reward mentioned in it.

As regards the matter of permissibility, it is permissible for her to delay making up her Ramadaan fasts, provided that she makes them up before the next Ramadaan comes along.

Assalamu 'alaikum,

That whole calculation thing makes sense, but what's the daleel for this particular thing  that :we know every  HASANAH (good  job) is  multiplied  by  ten.. I mean, there has to be a proof for that too, otherwise, why 10, why not 7 or 20 or 100?

Jazaak Allah khair.

Mashallah, good question.

Question :

What is the ruling on fasting six days of Shawwaal? Is it waajib (obligatory)?

Answer :

Praise be to Allaah.

Fasting six days of Shawwaal after the obligatory fast of Ramadaan is Sunnah Mustahabbah, not waajib. It is recommended for the Muslim to fast six days of Shawwaal, and in this there is great virtue and an immense reward. Whoever fasts these six days will have recorded for him a reward as if he had fasted a whole year, as was reported in a saheeh hadeeth from the Prophet  (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). Abu Ayyoob (may Allaah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allaah  (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever fasts Ramadaan and follows it with six days of Shawwaal, it will be as if he fasted for a lifetime.” (Narrated by Muslim, Abu Dawood, al-Tirmidhi, al-Nisaa’i and Ibn Maajah).

The Prophet  (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) explained this when he said: “Whoever fasts for six days after (Eid) al-Fitr has completed the year: (whoever does a good deed (hasanah) will have ten hasanah like it).” According to another report: “Allaah has made for each hasanah ten like it, so a month is like fasting ten months, and fasting six days completes the year.” (al-Nisaa’i and Ibn Maajah.
See also Saheeh al-Targheeb wa’l-Tarheeb, 1/421). It was also narrated by Ibn Khuzaymah with the wording: “Fasting for the month of Ramadaan brings the reward of ten like it, and fasting for six days brings the reward of two months, and that is the fasting of the whole year.”

The Hanbali and Shaafa’i fuqaha’ explained that fasting six days of Shawwaal after fasting Ramadaan makes it as if one has fasted for an entire year of obligatory fasts, because the multiplication of the reward applies even to naafil fasts, because each hasanah brings the reward of ten like it.

Another of the important benefits of fasting six days of Shawwaal is that is makes up for any shortfall in a person's obligatory Ramadaan fasts, because no one is free of shortcomings or sins that have a negative effect on his fasting. On the Day of Resurrection, some of his naafil deeds will be taken to make up the shortcomings in his obligatory deeds, as the Prophet  (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The first thing for which people will be brought to account on the Day of Resurrection will be their salaah (prayer). Our Lord, may He be glorified and exalted, will say to His angels – although He knows best – ‘Look at the salaah of My slave, whether it is complete or incomplete.’ If it is perfect, it will be recorded as perfect, and if something is lacking, He will say, ‘Look and see whether My slave did any voluntary (naafil) prayers.’ If he did some voluntary prayers, [Allaah] will say, Complete the obligatory actions of My slave from his voluntary actions.’ Then all his actions will be dealt with in a similar manner.” (Narrated by Abu Dawood).

And Allaah knows best.
