[slm] I'm looking to get a digital camera. I guess 5 or 6 megapixel is the standard now, I really don't want anything less. What are the good ones in terms of picture quality and price? ??? |

[slm] I second that. We have a Canon IXUS 400, and it is really great. I'm not sure if there is any difference between the S4000 and IXUS400, but it is small, easy to put in the bag, takes great pictures, and even a short video if you want. |

[slm], I am no expert on cameras, but I heard that for normal pictures, we take 5/6 or even 4 Mpixels is way too much. Thats only needed if you want large prints etc. Otherwise you won't really see much difference between 2 MPixels and 4 Mpixels on a post card size picture. |

[slm] I just asked my dad and he said ours is 6 megapixels and it cost like $550. I was like :o jeez dad you could have bought me tons of things for that money ;D but a camera for 550 bucks?! It is really good though and my dad took an 8x10 pic and it was sooo clear! Just like at those studios. We also used it at an engagement party of a close friend to take pictures for the family since we had the same camera as the place they were gonna hire and alhamudillah they turned out great! Any more questions and I'll be happy to ask my dad! :) Good Luck! Wasalaam Doha :-) |

[slm] From what I've read, there isnt much difference btwn 4mp and 5. I think only if a person wants to enlarge pics would a 5mp one be better. Not 100% sure though. I bought the canon s400 elph this past Aug for my best friend's wedding, and am pretty happy with it. It's basically a point and shoot type of camera, with a lot of other functions I'm not familiar with yet. :) www.cnet.com really helped with my research. and when i was ready to purchase, i did a lot of surfing on www.edealinfo.com; they have some really really great deals that stores can't beat, but you just have to check the site often. I think it updates every Thursday. Good luck! wassalam |

[slm] I can't answer about the tiff, but you certainly can change it to tiff after uploading to your computer. The disk memory is 256MB in the Canon IXUS 400 |

[slm] Thank you all for your input, but I have decided against your advice. :o Ta-dam ta-dam ta-dammmmmmmmmmmm I bought a 5 megapixel Canon S50 camera, brand new, with shipping and handling and everything for $393. Now I know my camera is not stylish and sleek like the ones the girls are talking about, and maybe that's the reason they want it (because it matches their purse, hijab, or shoes? ???) This camera had the highest rating in the 5 megapixel range. I'll tell you why I went with this. I used to work in Canon's R&D Bubble Jet Division, and we would print out pictures with our printers. And the size of these images were like 20 to 50 megabytes. And those images looked like they were out of a magazine. Now a 5 megapixel picture is about 2200 x 1950 pixels. If your printer is let's say 360 DPI (dots per inch), then this picture will be just about perfect for the paper (360 DPI * 8" for paper = about 2880 dots). But the printers of today are about 4800 DPI. So that same image, can be printed in less then an inch of space. The reason I didn't go with Fuji was because its not true 6 megapixel, they have a 3.1 megapixel field and take 6 megapixels and map it onto there. Also I have heard the lens make a big difference. If you want to go for quality then go in the $800 price range and opt for an SLR digital camera. At the high end Canon has a 12 megapixel camera or maybe its 11 megapixels, and it goes for about $7000. Now the next thing to do is to buy memory, and what kind of flash memory to get? ??? |
