Public School vs. Charter/Islamic School

Right now I go to a public high school. I am a freshmen there. I feel that I cannot be a good Muslim. There is wayyyyy to much mixing there and a lot of other really bad things go on and I just have to deal with it. The high school I go to is in my city. A close family friend teaches at a Charter School about 15 min from where I live. It has an Arabic class and the population is mostly Muslim. I really want to go there because I feel that I could become a better Muslim with good influences around me and improve my Arabic. Part of me says to stay at the public since I have gone to schools in that district all my life. Most of my friends go to school with me and I would be the first girl who wears hijab to ever graduate there. The other part says to go to the Charter school and learn more and become a better person inshaAllah.

I would like to know what you guys think of this situation. Should I just stay at my Public school or finish up this year and switch to the Charter school. I would appreciate any input.

Thanks in advance,
Wasalaam,
:-)

Maybe this really depends on what your parents have to say, because generally parents are responsible for the education of their children.

I'm way past high school, but in my grad school program, in a public university system, I also feel disturbed by the unIslamic environment. I would like to get out of my college; the only reason that I'm there is for the knowledge that I'm studying, and if there were a Muslim college offering the same program of study, taught by qualified professors, I don't think I could justify staying at my present college.

One thing that might help you decide is setting up a meeting for yourself and your parents with teachers and administrators at the charter school that you're considerring to see if that will make you feel more comfortable with the idea of going there insh Allah.

If it's a really good school, you might inspire your friends to join you there as well. This is an important question and insh Allah you can get better advice from people you know personally and trust.

Insha'Allah I am becoming a future teacher, i just finished my practicum and i've a lot to say about public schooling! I would definitely suggest check out the charter school first, but ahh a school where u can learn arabic, be around Muslims and insha'Allah get spirtually elevated sounds amazing!

Actions are judged according to their intentions sah? so mashallah since your intention is to become a better muslimah and learn the language of Quran...........it would be better to opt for a Charter/Islamic school.Inshallah.
May Allah be with you always and make you decide the best for youself.ameen.

My girls (10 and 5) have always gone to Islamic schools, Masahallah.  Yes, they are not perfect, but they have made a big difference to my kids. There's a big difference between being surronded by Islamic values/teachers/friends all day, and non-Islamic ones.

lil sis Doha, arn't we missing a category up there ? I mean the "Full time Islamic Studies" ? We need many female scholars as there is a dire need of them in this age.

Alhamdulillah i got my aunty and his husband convinced and they (and me) talked to their daughter to get enrolled in a full time course (yesterday). She'll be the first shaykha in our relatives inshaAllah..... inshaAllah!

Oh, and if anyone is thinking that ay Pakistan is a third world country and ppl send their kids to madrassas all the time and things dont work this way in west and blah... then lemme tell you guys that my uncle i'm talking about here is a rich landlord and runs a fine Banquet Hall too. .. and the list goes on... Point being, children from such class dont go to madrassas! its a rarity.

So my question is, why isn't that an option up there? BTW at what age does "Zaytuna" enroll students and do we have other such institutes in the west?

Ah man that would be awesome to go to full time Islamic studies. I never knew you could do that in 9th grade. If I find a school in my area that has that I would definetly go! I would get the same highschool diploma right? Being a shaykha would be great. For the past few months I have been torn between being a pediatrician and getting a education in Islamic studies. They are 2 completley different paths but interest me so much.

Pakistan, eh. I always thought Egypt or Saudi. My dad says Saudis are a little too cultural and he would want me to learn somewhere else. But Pakistan.....I never really thought of that. I don't know how my parents would feel. They always thought of me as a doctor, but I guess it's up to me.

Man, my school is getting worse! I don't want to mention any details.it's making me cringe!

Thanks for your help everyone and I would like to read more inshaAllah!
