Hope everyone reading it is in the best of health and imaan. This post is dedicated to all the members and lurkers here who choose not to post but i'm sure many of them have the capability of seizing any day and capturing any given moment!

We have famous ppl here, the admins, the mods, the eloquent ones, the thinkers, the famous diaper dads! But you know and i know that there are Muslims around us who have the capabilities but are silent due to their different attachment with Allah. This post is also dedicated to all those ppl who have chosen real life as their dawah arena (rather than internet or any other media) and are living a not so famous life.... living unknown but many are way ahead in deen than any of us on here.

You ppl are special. Undoubtably. The [s]funny[/s] piece below is dedicated to u ppl.

Cat loving women and Dog loving men!

2] This happened some 4 months back when i went to an uncle's house to get his cell number coz me and some friends wished to meet him in the masjid where he was staying with the jamaat. It was one of those rare days when i was wearing the qamiz shalwar and kufi. Parked my car outside his mansion, went inside the main gate, crossed the driveway, the lawn, the car parking area and was about to ring the door bell pass the corridor when i saw this DOG, a rottweiler (sp?).

Come on uncle where is the sign "beware of the dog"? ::) ... Was stunned in my footsteps, uttered "ya Allah help" and dint move a muscle further. Looked at his neck to see if he is tied, yes he was,, good show... BUT, when i watched/followed the chain its other end was tied to nothing! PERFECT, just what i needed.

Seriously, i thought of climbing the rooftop of the jeep behind me but the thought of ppl coming to my rescue and laughing their heads off on the bearded guy stopped me doing it. Thought of running away from the beast but again the thought of being chased by a dog and ppl laughing at me overrided the decision and i recited surah ikhlaas instead!

There was i looking friendly to the thing as it was still calm. After a couple of minutes i thought i better ring the bell, which i did and came back to my original position so that the beast may not get *offended*. No responce from inside!!!! wake up ppl there is a life in danger! Another bell and back to my position but this time the thing thought of *checking me out*........ ya Allah help, it is coming for me....

Now there we are face to face and i'm extending my hand above his head to show him (or her) that i'm here in peace. It started lifting its front feet up and the thought of getting my hand bit from him made me stop doing it. You dont wanna know what happened next..... he decided to cover his head with my qameez (long shirt)... yiiiikes... Took a couple of steps back and thought he'll have me as lunch if i stood here like this doing nothing. So i bucked myself up and rubbed his head a litle followed by holding his chain with my breath held! Did few "muuah" "muuah" gestures and walked him to the place where he belonged in the corridor and tied him...................... (YES!!!! round of applause for me) ... thankyou thankyou.....

Moral: Not all men love dogs and not all women LOVE CATS! (remember that)

Not a dog friendly brother.

PS: just a reminder of whom it was dedicated to....... um... u know...

PPS: And even after my countdown no one asked me to stay, think you guys want me to leave ::) but as i like going against the flow...... so i decided to stay, which means your dua got rejected! better luck on the 2Kth. ..................... [s]who was leaving anyway?[/s]

I dont get where you were leaving to go to? Anyhow I dont like being near cats or dogs... i can look from afar but not close. ...... strange. Each day I have to bypass dogs in the streets of Manhattan- (people rather have dogs here than babies)..many a time I have to move aside and let the dog pass!

but anyhow

peace ::)

at Birmingham, Christmas time, i was walking on the footpath, the road was deserted, out comes this man with his huge dog, & i am grateful that he is on the other side of the road, & then this dog runs over to my side & jumps & hugs me, & all the time I am terribly frightened. I must look it, because the man crosses over slowly (oh, so ever so slowly), & tells me that his dog is only a baby, it is an Afghan Hound!

Thanks Allah it was not an adult dog, but it was still the largest dog i have ever seen, & he was able to hug me standing.

more dogs & me later!

OMG your posts had me  :-/ ! I am not a cat or dog person either. Actually I really don't care for any animals. I wish I did, but they just really scare me! Anyways Br Nomi's story reminded me of one of my own...........

Like 2 years ago I used to play softball for my school. We were away and I was center field, my favorite position. Most of my teammates knew I didn't like dogs so when they saw a dog runnin' around without a leash, they thought it would be funny if it went on the field. Usually when I play I really concentrate and don't get easily distracted, but man when I saw that dog I dropped my mitt and ran like there was a fire behind me right in the middle of a game! Everyone (both our team and the other one) was laughing so hard! I ran around the entire field screaming while the umpire was like "um you need to stand still so it doesn't chase you" and I was screaming "I am not gonna stay still so that beast can bite me" I was really freaking out! When the game was over everyone was patting the "puppy" and saying how cute it was.  ::) I was like that is NOT a puppy. My team still reminds me of that day.

I wish I had more patience with animals.

My Neighbor in Sri Lanka used to have dogs. He was Christian (Go Figure) and also Russian. He Sometimes had other dogs come over temporarily. Once he had these (Bulldogs ithink) and kept a separate room for them. When I used to go over to his house he used to lock them in the room. Its not that they were fierce, just that they made a mess of things in the house, slobber it all up and all ::). (Ya dont wanna know the state of the dogs room). One dog he had permanently was a Cockerspanial. (I hear its blind now), It used to get exitable as a puppy and sometimes cause accidents (that is if you didnt stay still). Some times he used to escape from the house. It took me awhile to learn that I should just stand still and not Run. Many a times I was in danger of gettin High blood pressure because of all the work that my heart had to do me runnin and all that. I dont think I lost any pounds though since I was still a kid. When I learnt to stand still the dog just sniffed my up and down. Over the years the dog became more used to me until I had to leave Sri Lanka for this Trigger happy country (i.e U.S).

Well thats my experience with dogs. And as for cats, I practically lived with them. I once got bitten on the ear by one when I was asleep. I thought it was someone trying to annoy me, so I gave the Cat a push (Remember I was still Half Asleep). Well the cay got annoyed and nipped me one on the ear (Well after that I was'nt half asleep anymore).

I've also seen all the life styles of cats throught out its years. from young to old to dead. My Uncle used to care for them well Alhamdulillah until they rested in peace.

Awwww, I love cats! I like dogs too but I loovvveee cats. I have an aunt who has a phobia of cats, I mean, if a cat even walks 10 feet away from her she starts yelling and screaming. She recently moved to Pakistan, and they went out to eat. When they ordered the food, all these cats came out from everywhere around the table. She screamed so much everyone was looking at her. Same thing happened to her when she went to a wedding, a cat came under the table and she just started screaming. No need to say that everyone was looking at her, dressed up all nice, standing on the chair screaming. Ever since then she gets to sit with the bride and groom on the stage when she goes to a wedding :).

Thank you Bro Nomi for making us feel special :) I am one of the lurkers and hardly ever post but I come here everyday and read all the posts. I love this place and love all you people and your words of such wonderful wisdom. May Allah bless you all and give you ajr in this life and the hereafter, Ameen.

dudes, whatever the faults of cats and dogs there is a reason why dogs are called "man's best friend." Dogs are so loyal, so dedicated to their owners that you cannot help but to like them.  I don't know about cats.  They are more cute, and less useful but still a sahabi  of the esteem of abu hurayra was extremely fond of cats -- in fact his name means father of kittens because he was always surrounded by them.

now personally, i think dogs and cats are a bit gross -- but then i have neat freak tendencies in some things.  but then there are many muslims who grew up with them  when they were kids "back home"...and still love them...but because of islamic law avoid them....

i once ran into a piece about khaled abu fadl and dogs.  at first i thought he was like totally off the wall....but nevertheless it is an opinion....and an opinion which i would like to believe but am too paranoid about dr fadl to accept.

I love animals, especially little kittycats so i had to respond to this topic! My opinion is that just to look at animals, can be so heartwarming, like a gift from Allah, there's just so much beauty in it plus it's just another reminder of the greatness of Allah. Although, not all animals are that cute, loool.
I remember a few months ago i was having a bad day, walking into the downstairs hallway in my house i saw the cutest little kitten sitting on the halltable, it must have jumped through the window, it made my day all good again, because it wouldn't stop purring, it was soooo affectionate, even when i took it outside it kept jumping around me wanting to play with me. Funny thing is that every time i see the cat outside i'm reminded of that day and just have to smile..... i love cats!!!!!
