back from Dubai

hi everyone again!! I got back from Dubai Friday night, and I wish I never had too!! I just love it there so so much!! I cried when saying my good-byes to my fiancee and his family.

I must say though, not many of the Muslim men there practice "lowering the gaze" at all!!  I started throwing one end of my shayla over my face to avoid the stares... but they still stared even with my face covered!!

Eid was actually kind of not what I thought it would be like at all.  Since my fiancee's mother is the oldest in the family people came over to her house instead of us going house to house.  I was nervous because I was expecting to spend all day alone with a bunch of women while the men gathered in another room.  But really it was kind of boring because it was only a few women at a time that would come, then we would chat for a short while and then they would leave.  Then we would just wait until more came.   It was like that all day....    it was sort of boring.  But then again, I'm glad we did not have to go house to house as I didn't know anyone anyways!!

I just loved hearing the adhaan at my fiancee's house.  Sometimes when it started I would just stand outside in their yard and listen to it and my fiancee's sister thought it was funny.

Mashallah His family is very happy with me and they are excited for me to move to Dubai.  He says it will be no longer than 3 months inshallah that I will be moving there so I am just hoping it will be sooner!!  There were a few family members that do not accept me at all like his oldest brother.  He refused to meet me even though once we were face to face and another time he had to walk past me to get into the house.  He just completely ignored me.  I am just glad that he lives in his own home so I won't have to deal with him.  My fiancee and his sister even told me not to worry about him.  Its just too bad that he couldn't even say hello to me, you know?  But his mother likes me a lot and that is what I would think the main person that I want to have on my side.

I would have to say that Dubai and even Abu Dhabi really do not feel like a foreign city at all, and that they look like regulare U.S. cities only with very nice buildings, lots of masjids, and lots of people wearing Islamic/Arabian clothing.

We did not get married while I was there, it will happen after I move.  My fiancee and his mother still want to try and get that brother to lighten up about the fact that I am not Emirati.  We don't think it will be successful but it won't hurt to try.  The brother has told their mother that if we marry, he will never come over to the house again!!

There is one of his cousins whom I heard about from before and she did not like me either.  I have heard of her before and from what I knew before I know she was interested in my fiancee very much.  I even told him that but he doesn't believe me.  His sister told him that this cousin was complaining about me very much and was not calling me by my name, but was calling me a "turtle"!!  I actually wasn't angry but kind of puzzled and amused when I heard about it as I have never heard of anyone calling someone a turtle as an insult.

I only checked into the Madinat boards once while I was over there and did not have time to look at all the messages but I hope everyone is doing great.  I remember one sister here was going to be married but I can't remember who it was.... If you are that sister then I hope everything went well and Mabrook!!

Welcome back !!!!
and remember, you can't make everyone happy all the time and if your fiancee and his mother were pleased that is like 9/10th  of the battle  ;)
As to the one (s) getting married, I think there were like 1 late Nov and 4 to 5 Dec brides to be    :o
I think it's in the city drinking water   :-/
Welcome back and may things go smoothly for you and your intended.
And please, when you get a chance tell us more about Dubai. Was it warm there? Mountains? Hills? Flat? Green? Desert? I wish I could visit other countries and learn other cultures, the sounds, the smells, you lucky duck
oops I mean you lucky turtle   ;)  (just joking)
I use to call my little sister  ..... worm   :-/

Welcome back sis.... i just wanted to drop a note for everyone reading this. Whenever you visit some Muslim country DO NOT expect it to be an "Islamic" country. Not even "Islamic Republic of Pakistan", as i've heard stories of people (converts) getting ticked off for what they expected and what they really saw.

Just few brotherly comments :)
