Possibly serious problem?

Salaam alaykom,

  I need some objective advice.
I've been married quite a number of years and I'm in my late twenties. Recently I was
diagnosed as having Beta Thallessemia Minor which is a form of chronic anemia (Hgb) common
among the Mediterranean (sp?) people. Anyway, I just have the trait. The thing is if my
husband also has the trait, any children we may decide to have in the future have a high
chance of getting Thallessemia MAJOR. In which case the child would have some serious
defects.
Now I asked my husband to have his blood tested but I don't think he understands how
serious this is and how important it is to me. I've been thinking it over and I'm probably
going off the deep end here but ...IF he has it as well...well I'm going to avoid having
children because I can't handle heartache in my life...I've had too much sadness as it
is. This in turn may definately harm our relationship. But then I'm willing to take that
risk.
Do I sound paranoid??? If I do, I can't help it. This has been brewing in my mind ever
since I researched this thing I have. So I don't know....maybe I need some comforting
words or reassurance but I also need to know what you all think assuming that my husband
does have it. Some objective viewpoints would be appreciated.

One step at a time. Don't worry yourself until you find out whether your husband also has Beta Thallessemia Minor. All the stress could be for nothing.
