I trying to explain what the Qiblah is and why the kaba is important in Islam to a non muslim. Does anyone have any pointers? Shukran

Also, I thought Prophet Ibrahim and his son Prophet Ismail(peace be upon them) built the Kabah? But I have have found some websites that briefly mentioned that Prophet Adam(Peace be upon him) was the first to build the Kabah. But they dont have any information about it.  :(

QUIBLA  is the  position where  Muslems  has   to face  to  perform  the  prayers  . what  is  meant  to  face Quiblah  is  not  for the sake of  the  kaibah  as  an  impotant  holy thing  but  it  is  a  sort of  order to  test  who  obeys  ALLAH'S order  .It  make  no   difference   for  ALLAH  where  to  pray  and  which  position  but  he  knows  the  satan  which  is deluding   us  even  during  prayers , would  get  chance  to whisper  us  saying  , ALLAH  is not  fair to  order  you  in this  position  less  than  the  group   so and so  .as  it  did  to  ADAM  that Tree  ALLAH  has  prohited you would  make  you  an  ANGEL  or  Everlasting  in the Jannah  .

OMAR  BIN  KHATAB  whilst kissing the  HAJAR AL ASWAD ( THE  BLACK  STONE  AT  THE  CORNER  OF  KAIBAH )  said  to  it  :   I  KNOW  YOU ARE  JUST A STONE  NEITHER HARMS  NOR BENEFITS  .
AND    I  HAVE  SEEN  THE  PROPHET DOING  THIS  SO  I DID  THE SAME   .

This  proves that  it is  just  a matter  of  order  to do  this  .
similarly  when  ALLAH  ordered  the  MALAIKAH  to  bow  down  for ADAM. ADAM WAS  A   HUMAN  BEING  and  is not  comparable with the  MALAIKAH  but  they still did what  ALLAH  ASKED  THEM TO  DO ,. and not  because    ADAM  WAS  BETTER  THAN  THEM .  This  is  the  begining  of  the  ABLIS( The Satan )  He   refused to  obey  ALLAH  with   his  pride , No  more  of  that type  of  order to  bow  for ADAM .It was  just a  test

The  KAIBAH  was  first  built  by  ADAM.  IBRAHIM (PBUH) has  just  renewed  it .

You could also say that facing the Qibla unifies muslims in one sense.  So this way we have people praying in the same direction.  Cause if we didn;t have the position of the qibla, muslims would be praying all over the place, example in a masjid if there was no qibla you would have muslims praying in all different corners instead of in one unified row after row.  Also it is narrated in hadith, that this is how angels line up.

And adding to the point the brother made, Allah swt says in Surah al Baqarah, Ayah 144  “so turn your face in the direction of Al-Masjid Al-Haraam (at Makkah). And wheresoever you people are, turn your faces (in prayer) in that direction”.  So it is a direct command from Allah swt, so even if there is no explanation of why,  it's a direct command.

And Allah Swt knows best

The core theme of Islam that it seeks to instill in the minds of people, the theme that everything in the Sharee'ah keeps coming back to, is the theme of Tawheed.  Everything in Islam can be broken down to this.  Our lives are lived, as believers, in pursuit of the perfection of this concept in our hearts.

The essence of Tawheed lies inside one's heart.  Its epitomy is when the heart sees no one, *nothing*, except Allah (swt).  No act is seen independent of Allah (awj).  No created thing is seen independent from Allah (swt).  Everything begins to reveal Him to us, because all of creation is a product of His Act (of creation, fashioning, sustaining, etc).  And it is through His Acts that we know His Attributes.  And it is only through His Attributes that we know Him (swt), for we cannot - as human beings - know His essence.

So, in order to help us attain that epitomy of tawheed, where our hearts are *only* oriented towards the One - at all times, in all places - He (swt) ordains for us rituals and obligations which inculcate this concept within us.  He ordains for us Salah, 5 times every day, so that we take time out of our busy lives to remember Him.  So that we turn the antennas of our hearts towards Him, at least 5 times a day.  If we do at least that, then it will, insha Allah, help us reach a level (perhaps with more voluntary prayers as more replenishment) where our antennas will constantly be directed towards Him throughout the day!  Every day!!

And so is the case with the pillars of Salah and its conditions.  Facing of the Qiblah is an outward act which literally *turns* our body and *points* it into *one* direction.  Tawheed again.  There's only one focal point for all believers.  Only one direction where our ibaadah is directed to (read that again ... do you see how that defines "laa ilaha illaLlaah"?!).  And this physical point of turning, of focus, is the physical House of the Lord.  As we turn our bodies towards that House, our inner beings, our hearts, turn towards the Lord of that House.

And thus all believers physically embody the concept of Tawheed 5 times a day (at least), hoping that this physical act will gradually seep through into their quloob as well.

That is why we face the qiblah.

Wallahu ta'ala a'lam.

Jazakallah khair for the great answers about the Qiblah. Could you guys elaborate a little more about the black stone, and its significance in relation to the Kaba. And more about Prophet Adam (PBUH) and the building of the kaba.
Skukran.
