[slm] It's been about 40 years since Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I have a dream" speech. In my area, schools are having a speech/poem/dramatic reading contest about "Honoring the Dream, Uniting the Community." Here is what I wrote, please write any comments so I can change it around before the deadline. Thanks and enjoy! “Honoring the Dream, Uniting the Community” By: Doha **** Forty years ago, Martin Luther King Jr. gave a speech that would be remembered for decades to come, People near and far came to listen, but still some people strayed away from The ideas and teachings that this man has taught, They thought they were too good for minorities, like a bunch of snots. But honoring this hero’s dream is very beneficial, But I guess some people are just too superficial. You see, he taught that people should be treated the same, so you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, Like if you took a second look at me, you’d learn that I’m just like any other. I laugh, go to school, and have friends too, All these things aren’t anything new. We are all human beings, but some are just different hues. We have come a long way in forty years, No more segregation, and not many racial sneers. There is still some room for us to improve, Some unnecessary racial comments need to be removed. So, if you ever get the opportunity, Try to carry on King’s wish: “Honor the dream, and unite the community.” Wasalaam Doha :-) |
