| Assalaamu alaikum everyone, I hate to introduce myself so abruptly but I was looking for discussions among people interested in the hijab controversy in France, there are some projects that could use some support from the ummah. I am American, Muslim, and I live in France with my husband and daughter. I could talk all day about how stressed I am at this situation, and the anti-Islamic atmosphere in general here, but instead of whining I am seeking to do something about it. The Islamic Human Rights Commission, based in London, is conducting a letter-writing campaign to the French government protesting the laws. They are also conducting a survey open to all Muslim women in Europe, to measure amounts of discrimination and harrassment. Please fill this out, you can do so anonymously, and spread the word. They are accepting surveys from American Muslimas as well, for comparison value. Visit www.ihrc.org for details, and click on "campaigns". I am also looking for ways to establish contact between French and American Muslims to express solidarity and conduct kind of a "media watch" concerning the hijab issue and discrimination in general. I have contacted CAIR but haven't heard anything from them yet. I don't know where else to try. If anyone hears of any association or person who would be interested in doing this, please let me know. I'm usually more social than that when I sign up on a message board, but I just wanted to quickly get the word out on this because it's such a hot topic and I'm REAL MAD about it.
