UK: More on Praying at work Sent by Sidi Faisal Aziz Here in the UK, the government has just passed a new law giving further freedom to religious beliefs. This law states that people with beliefs, be they agnostic or even 'trekkies', need to have their beliefs accomadated into the work environment. More importantly, for us muslims, this means we have freedom to celebrate Eid and to demand flexible timing in issues related to Ramadan or even salat. For example, during Ramadan, employers were obliged to provide flexible timings for people who are fasting. What this meant was that , due to the short fasts , i.e. 4pm iftars, we muslims required to leave work at that time. In regards to the work and pray question, well it is now an obligation for employers in the UK, to provide facilties for their employees to practice their religion freely. In the company that I work for, we have now been provided a prayer room in every building within London. All that was required, is to locate the buidings manager, update him with the "The Employment Equality (Religion or Belief) Regulations 2003 act " and demand a prayer room. Today, alhamdullilah, I am able to work in any one of our 4 offices, and pray my salah with free will and with no guilt associations. For those amongst us who are troubled by praying in stairwells or fire escapes or even nasty corridors, then please ask ALLAH for assistance, follow the above guidelines. Then watch how the OPENER will open up your deen for you.
