All this mad cow stuff

It is in the news but I am not posting a news artical so if this is in the wrong subject area, my apologies and relocate it is need be. Thank you.

As many of you can see, Mad Cow has arrived in the US.
This is why I am such an advocate of raising your own food.
But sadly I know it cannot always be done.
I can't help but wonder though if folks can get together and raise veggies and meat as a group effort.

Can an group of people buy a small piece of land for this purpose?
Grow veggies and such and the women get together and can and freeze
and distribute amoungst the families in their group.

Chickens for example, you can buy them as day old chicks and raise them for 5 to 7 weeks and have a butchering party and stock up freezers.
I did not the last year but usually I raise 50 at a time under heat lamps the first 3 weeks and then butcher them out at 5 to 7 weeks (sometimes 8 or 9 weeks depending on the bred, I use cornish cross)
This way you know they are healthy and how they were fed.
Just beware of what you buy for feed.
If a family uses 2 chickens a week 50 is 6 months worth.

They say this mad cow stuff is from feed that includes other animal body parts YUKKKKKKKKKK, most cows I know eat hay and grain not their herd mates   :P  How gross to know what commercial raiser feed our food.

I remember one time I took some feed back to the store that was dusty and nasty and got asked, What is the big deal it's for animals,   ::)
Well why would I feed an animals nasty stuff and then I am going to eat that animals grossssssssssssssssssss

This summer I am going to make sure the lamb, chicken, turkey and goat are something I raised and put in the freezer as well as the veggies.
I did it many a years and I am going back to it with a vengance this spring  ;)

What are your feelings on this?

I think you may be taking that is a way not meant.
thousands of years ago and even in some countries today, even in the US in Alaska, men go out and have hunting parties and butcher it up and distribute it amoung the families in a tribe.

Can you bring the kids????????????? I dunno, are they tender foot city kids that think beef comes from the grocery store's back room or Mc D's or have they even been exposed to farm life. I know my oldest realized shooting and death was not as fun as the tv made it out to be once he saw his first Cow shot and butchered.

Maybe it sounds gross to a city guy, but I like my hamburger with lettuce, tomatoe and mustard, you can keep the growth hormones, antibiotics, and mad cow illness thank you   ;)

A canning, butchering and barn raising party is not common anymore, sadly to say. Heck during hunting season it is cool when 3 or 4 or 5 of us are cutting and freezer wrapping a deer or elk or two, makes it get done faster and everyone shares in the meat.

i like mine with lettuce, onion,  and avacado (also one more thing so i will not mention on a muslim website).  And for those of you who like hamburgers i wait until that afternoon and have them grind up a chuck steak.  That way you are assured that it is fresh ground and chuck steak has the exact right amount of fat to make a great hamburger.  Also a little worscheshire sauce in the hamburger meat.  Also, the patty has to be a minimum of 1/3 pound.  Less than that and it dries out too quickly.
