[slm] Jazak Allah Khair for posting this...you got there before me :D Just a bit more about this website: As part of IAW, the virtual classroom has also been launched on the 3rd November 2003 by Secretary of State for Education and Skills Charles Clarke. It is an Education Resource Site for Secondary Schools. Enter The Virtual Classroom and explore how the rich cultural heritage of Islam has contributed to your daily life. How did the Muslims develop the paper industry after contact with the Chinese? Where did the idea of a three-course meal come from? What are the origins of words like coffee, tulip and magazine? Who drew one of the first scientific maps of the world? Through the Quest for Knowledge quiz, a concoction of clues, riddles and questions, and by interacting with the chemistry set, dictionary and white board, you will uncover how the work of historical Muslim figures advanced the fields of science, medicine, mathematics, architecture, music and the arts. The Virtual Classroom is a celebration of knowledge and learning; a celebration of scientific discoveries and technological breakthroughs; a celebration of the legacy of Islam. The Virtual Classroom aims to provide schools with material related to Islam, Muslim History and Culture; a resource to develop dialogue and understanding, promote religious tolerance and respect for diversity. Based on a learner-centred paradigm and through a variety of interactive techniques, it also presents pupils with an opportunity to reflect on the importance of learning in the development of the individual and advancement of society. The Virtual Classroom is a six stage project, stage one has been launched on the 3rd of November 2003. www.iaw.org.uk |

cute song presentation in flash http://www.biznaseducation.com/koko2003/lastbreath.swf and some more flash songs in english and arabic http://groups.msn.com/14MASUMEEN/yourwebpage14.msnw the lyrics to the first one "Every Soul Shall Taste Death" "Inna Lillahi w Inna Ilay Hir Raje`oon" From: SAYED FEROZ From those around I hear a Cry, A muffled sob, a Hopeless sigh, I hear their footsteps leaving slow, And then I know my soul must Fly! A chilly wind begins to blow, within my soul, from Head to Toe, And then, My Last Breath escapes my lips, It's Time to leave. And I must Go! So, it is True (But it's too Late) They said: Each soul has its Given Date, When it must leave its body's core, And meet with its Eternal Fate. Oh mark the words that I do say, Who knows? Tomorrow could be your Day, At last, it comes to Heaven or Hell Decide which now, Do NOT delay ! Come on my brothers and sisters let's pray Decide which now, Do NOT delay ! Oh Allah! Oh Allah! I can't see ! My eyes are Blind! Am I still Me ? Or has my soul been led astray, And forced to pay a Priceless Fee ? Alas to Dust we all return, Some shall rejoice, while others burn, If only I knew that before The line grew short, and came Turn! And now, as beneath the sod They lay me (with my record flawed), They cry, not knowing I cry worse, For, they go home, I face my Allah! Oh mark the words that I do say, Who knows that I so say, Who knows? Tomorrow could be your Day, At last, it comes to Heaven or Hell Decide which now, Do NOT delay ! Come on my brothers and sisters let's pray Decide which now, do not delay .... |

You check out my work here and I have links to other muslims and non-muslims writing on Islam. http://Writing.Com/authors/fudgie30 Anyone can have space here, and I have all this for free. It is a great opportunity to do dawa, and non-muslim members have been very respectful of the faith. They want to know more and are willing to learn. [slm] sis Jannah, I was looking around for more info on Erich Blumrich and found an interview with him... http://www.cosmik.com/aa-october03/blumrich.html here are some more of his flashes: this is what I have been looking for!!! The destruction that Depleted Uranium causes... it is hard to get people to read about it... this is hard to watch, especially because is involves babies (don't watch this if you don't want to see the toll on unborn children because of the new air the U.S. weapons have created for all Iraqis to breathe) ... but its something that more people MUST know about: http://www.bushflash.com/pl_lo.html this is an excellent anti-war one was right before the Occupation of Iraq: http://www.bushflash.com/antiwar2.html wow, another excellent one: http://www.bushflash.com/pax.html wow... he has so many... since there are so many, I will now just give the link: http://www.bushflash.com/animation.html its such a powerful message... I wish I had known about him sooner to pass his messages around... I like the saying on there: "All that is needed for evil to triumph, is for good men to do nothing" Ameera |

Living Faith: Inside the Muslim World of Southeast Asia not totally accurate but some beautiful photos, check it out :) http://www.asia-images.com/featurestories/livingfaith/index.htm Over the past three decades, Steve Raymer has journeyed to more than 85 countries as a National Geographic magazine staff photographer and a professor of journalism at Indiana University. No stranger to the Islamic world, Raymer has photographed Muslims at prayer in all of the kingdoms of the Arabian Gulf, as well as in Afghanistan, Iran, Central Asia, and Niger in West Africa. Now Raymer turns his lens and his pen on the Muslim World of Southeast Asia, taking readers inside mosques and schools, into villages and cities, and among families for an intimate look at modern Islamic life. His compelling color photographs document a Muslim revival that spans the breadth of Southeast Asia, from the muddy Mekong River in Cambodia through the vast Indonesian Archipelago. Raymer also visits southern Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and tiny Brunei to give Islam a human face in this stunning portrait of Southeast Asia at the dawn of a new century. In splendid mosques filled with tens of thousands of worshipers, Raymer listens to the muezzin’s haunting call to Friday prayer, a ritual summons called the adhan in Arabic. He visits high technology companies and their sterile “clean rooms,” where Muslim women in traditional head scarves fabricate computer chips and memory modules for F-16 fighter jets and sport utility vehicles. And he talks to young people at places like the Hard Rock Café in Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta, where the subject of a resurgent Islam is never far away. Raymer pays particular attention to the young, whose swelling numbers promise to make Islam an ever-more potent force in years to come. He finds students learning the Koran in its original Arabic, while others wrestle with what it means to be a Muslim in a globalized world of cable and satellite television, the Internet, and shopping centers so big they’re called “megamalls.” In Malaysia, where he lived for months as a Fulbright research scholar based at the University of Malaya, Raymer visits mosques up and down the Malay Peninsula. He hears sermons about the evils of alcohol and gambling, meets Muslims embarking on the pilgrimage to Mecca and Medina, and discovers new Islamic associations committed to reform. He follows the faithful as they observe Ramadan – the Muslim month of fasting – that overshadows all other holidays. He learns how Muslim courts rule on marriage, divorce, and inheritance, how state religious councils advise local sultans on Islamic doctrine, and how a group called Sisters of Islam confront wife beating and domestic violence. Throughout his journeys, Raymer seeks answers to these questions: How has an imported religious creed transformed the culture and institutions of modern Southeast Asia, sometimes buttressing them against the advance of global capitalism and Western popular culture, at other times accommodating notions of democracy and universal human rights? And what happens when dreams of Islamic purity encounter values like individualism and the separation of religion and state? In the end, Raymer’s photographs and text show how Islam is reshaping a region that rarely is observed through the lens of religion. |

Assalaamu'alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh http://muslim-kidz.blogspot.com This is a blog that my daughters have just started abt life from a Muslim child's point of view -- talking abt issues like Harry Potter, dealing with xenophobia, ahadeeth and Islamic trivia. I'm just pitching in with the editing and internet research...otherwise it's all theirs... I know they'd find feedback very encouraging...so do look in inshaAllaah PS: If there are any bloggers on here, I'd be grateful for tips on increasing the number of posts on the main page...much to their despair I'm hopelessly non technical :( |
