Slightly belated intro

Assalaamu alaikum wa rahmatullah,

I posted a couple of messages already but I should be sociable and post a proper introduction.

I am an American Muslimah, and I live in France (yes, amid all the controversy which has existed for much longer than just a year I assure you!).

I signed up for this board before in the past (different name), but then I travelled and let my membership expire, never got to become very involved.

I am married to an Algerian, and I have a daughter who's 4 going on 25  :D

When I'm not obsessing about this hijab issue, I make beaded jewellry, study Arabic, drink lots of tea, sew, knit, and have a strange fascination with Japanese culture (thus my screen name - "cherry blossom").  That's traditional culture, not anime or whatnot...kimonos and origami, that sort of thing.

Then when I'm done with any of these aforementioned activities, I drink more tea  ;D

I'm feeling pretty isolated here, the only American Muslim I know of in the whole country, and I've had a very hard time adapting to the culture here because of the Islamophobic atmosphere.  I know some sisters from here but they are more used to the culture of course than I am, it's hard for them to understand where I'm coming from sometimes.

When I manage to escape from this place, I get my R & R in sunny, dry Arizona.

I must go now...I have a headcold, so time to drink more tea  8)

Fi amanillah,
Sakura

Welcome sis.  I'm also a big tea drinker (6/7 cups a day) and am drinking a cup as I write this!  Hm, maybe we should have an icon for tea?

Humble Muslim...it seems like there are many tea drinkers here...how about a Tea Corner instead of (or in addition to) a Bebzi Stand?   :-[

Yumna...I have a "Yemna" in my DH's family.  Tea isn't "bad" for your teeth, it's actually slightly antiseptic, but only if you're not putting sugar in it (and green tea is better for teeth).  In any case it does stain them terribly so you have to take your pick...strong and ugly or weak and pretty  :o

This is a friendly board, I used to visit other groups/boards that had much more fitna in them and quit all boards for a long time because of it.

Hey, am I late to this intro party?  I extend my warmest welcome and greetings.  So how's living in France?  Oh my, with all that's going on all the French sistas have my prayers.  You make beaded jewellery?  kewl.  I lurve origami too.  I have a coupla books on it and Inshallah hope to learn more makes.  It's really gd for building up one's patience (i had a v. frustrating experience with a seal sitting on a rock, went straight in the bin, hee!) .  Well, make youself at home, get comfy and I hope to hear more from you.

P.S.  hey, I'm an orange tree and you're a cherry blossom, shouldn't we be in a forest somewhere?   :D :D

You're not late at all, join in...

Living in France is very aggravating in many ways, but I must say I'm grateful for the health care system as I've got lots of things that need medical attention.   I posted some things in the Ummah community center about the hijab issue.  If I go on and on about it, it starts to stress me out   >:(

Hmmm...orange tree...cherry blossom...we need a Kauthar, and a Rumman (pomegranite), and what else?  Don't suppose someone would be named Zaytuna...or Date Palm?  Oh, and with all my talk about tea, we need a *tea tree*  :D

Welcome! This is a very useful board mashaAllah.

I like your name! I'm Doha............it means Morning Light. Maybe you drink tea during the morning light!  :-* So some how I kind fit in.  :) . But I DO NOT like tea. My parents can't live without it though. I'm more of a coffee person. I drink it any chance I get and I bought myself a little coffee maker, it's soooooooo cute! But at 14 (15 in May  :) )that's not a good thing. I heard it stunts your growth......but alhamdulillah I'm growing just fine, it's not like I drink it EVERY day.

Anyway, welcome and have fun! Let's pretend the bebzi icon is coffee/tea. [].......... Have fun!  :-X

Wasalaam,
Doha  :-)

Doha, you fight right in... don't worry about not drinking tea, most of us won't hold it against you  :D  Actually I love coffee as well, it's been in the past year or so that I've become a huge tea fan.  But I feel ashamed of myself sometimes because we have this nice electric espresso machine in the house  :o  I use it to steam milk for chai sometimes.  Please don't overdo the coffee at your age, I'm not sure if it really does stunt growth but I sure have heard that often enough.  I started drinking coffee when I was about 16 and I'm only just over 5 feet tall !

Lil Sista....kimonos are the best, aren't they?  I have one authentic one right from Japan, but it's too formal, I don't want to wear it often.   I am looking to sew myself some yukata/informal kimonos.   I don't think I could get myself to go out in one unless it were made of very toned-down fabric and I had a haori coat on to cover the belt.  I think they are such wonderful clothes though.  I think J-pop is annoying as well, but it's fun to try to understand the words for a moment or two.

I have a "mukana" from Indonesia, I pray in it all the time   :-*

Forgive my slightly belated response, Sis.

Welcome to the board, insha' Allah you'll discover that this is a great group of people here.

Altho I really don see what ya'll are so intrigued by tea for, I won't drink it cuz it might stunt my growth or some other ghetto side effect ::)

Welcome to the board!

Being trapped in Germany myself, where the process is ongoing to ban headscarves in schools I can understand you completely.

Keep your chin up. I am about 2 hours from the French border (or maybe less depending on the route). Whereabouts in France are you?

Looking forward to your contributions!

Oh yes and I love tea too! Hot and strong and milky. Black tea obviously.

Smile… Welcome to Madina Sister

Jazak Allahu Khairan ... your posts gave a smile... Subhan Allah
I’d have to say this is my belated response as well  …   :-[ can we pass it off as just sticking with the theme ?

I suppose I'd be considered a tea drinker too …very nice idea, too bad we cannot petition for that little icon… (such a grand idea)… Well, I also thought we should petition for a 'little peace flag' icon here recently too ;).

Hope you’re doing well, hope your trapped days are looking brighter & everything is well for you & yours.

May Allah (swt) continue to assist & support us all in this journey of ours … Ameen
