As Salamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullah. Even though this topic deals with a book, I am asking the moderator to keep this post in this "Bebzi Stand" section. I feel as though that this post will get more attention if it stays here. The book forum does not get too many hits. Brothers and sisters, there is a book that I have been looking for for the past few weeks. No commercial bookstore sells it. All websites that sell rare and hard-to-find books do not have it. I AM SO HOPING that maybe one of you on this discussion board has it. The book is titled "The Rise of Colleges: Institutions of Learning in Islam and the West." The author of the book is George Makdisi. If anyone has this book and is willing to sell it, please let me know. I am a collector of books, so I am willing to pay an unusual amount of money for it. Jazak Allah khair. Waqar Abdur Rahman As Salamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullah. |

I have a photocopied version of the book because, as you say, the book is rather difficult to find. So..umm..if you want to read it I can make u a copy but if u want to collect it then I am sorry I cannot help you. Wassalam |

As Salamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullah, To Sister Umm Wafi, Jazak Allah khair for the offer. I want the book for both reading and for my personal collection. However, I do need the actual book for my collection. Once again, I want to thank you for the offer. To Sister Matheerah, The book has been recommended by Shaykh Hamza Yusuf in a number of his writings and speeches. The book was written by a professor who examined, in thorough detail, the impact that Islamic civilization had on the formation of today's institutions of academia. The book is extraordinarily informative and useful. Jazak Allah khair once again. As Salamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullah. |
