| [slm] Some time ago, I stopped listening to music. The proofs came from the Qur'an and sunnah i.e. Islam PROHIBITS us from listening to music. Music is haraam because: it causes more bad than good; it prevents us from staying in a state of worship('ibadah); It contains subliminal messages that stays in our subconscious mind and makes us do bad things from time to time; In Quran 31:6 is an example of its prohibition and Muhammad [saw] explained this hadeeth. But the most interesting hadeeth is the one mentioning the signs of Qiyaamah such as zina, alcohol and use of musical instruments. Hence only music which has no instruments (except the daff) and which reminds us of our Creator is allowed according to the sunnah.
