What inspires/ed you?

Dearest Brothers and Sisters in Islam,

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu

Wouldn’t it be great if each and every one of us would add to this thread at least one thing that has inspired us?

Something that you feel would benefit others on the board…a verse from the Quran? A lecture? A life-changing moment? Words of advice from a friend? Something that just took your breath away?

Anything that you feel inspired you to be a better person/Muslim by words and/or deeds.

My hopes are that we can all benefit from others’ experiences and grow together as a community, insha’Allah.

What do you think?  :-*

A friend from the board sent me this a few years back, its inspired me quite a bit:

That even if you think you're all alone, and that everyone is on the other side, you're not alone.  Allah is on your side, and with Allah you can never be lonely.  It doesn't matter if you have two or two thousand muslims you can turn to, because you're not turning to them, you're turning to Allah, and they're only there to help you out along the way.  Allah is your protector, and the cause of everything you do, your prayer and your sacrifice, your life and your death are for HIM, and when you have that, when you have that belief and that certainty, everything else is just icing on the cake. I understand it can be pretty good icing, it  helps a LOT, but trust that you will be rewarded for your struggle fisabilillah, because you are promised that by Allah, and the promise of Allah is true.  (Seek help with patience and in prayer, for Allah is indeed with those who are patient.)

Assalaamu-alaikum Warahmatulaahi wabarakaatuhu

I know this may seem controversial, but i feel a lot of inspiration whenever i see Osama Bin Laadin. I have followed his story for many years, from a young rich kid who left his kingdom and crossed the world to live in caves to help his afghan brothers fight those whom had invaded thier homeland, to the way he was betrayed by the Saudi royals, how he was welcomed in Sudan, the huge positive impact he had on Sudans infrastructure, the engirneering projects he paid for with his own wealth, than having to leave, than the move back to Afghanistan, the way he stood strong under the pressure, the way he fought on the front lines at Tora Bora against US special forces, and the way in which even the Northern Alliance protected him and gave him safe passage once he was surrounded. All this points to a man who to many is a hero, whom even his enemies (who were muslims) would not hand him over, even though they stood to gain $25 Million.

This man is a true legend of our times, a great Mujaahideen leader who has inspired many millions of oppressed people around the world.

I would be greatful if muslims here chose not to look for, or pick out faults he may have in his character. We are all far from perfect, but how much have we done that this brother has achieved?

One mans terrorist, another mans freedom fighter.  ;-)

people who inspire me can be categorised into 2: those who I know personally, and those who are famous.

category 1: this lady who opens up her house every weekend to single mothers, and children from underprivelege background, and uses her home as a centre for single mothers, their children to study the quran and other lessons, and interact.  She would provide food without fail, and raise funds to help these people, be it money for their kids' schooling, books, whatever else... the single mothers (also uneducated) would learn the quran and other lessons.

inspiring because, how many of us really open up our homes and spend time with those in need?  none that i know of, though i help out this lady, in terms of time/effort...but i've a long way to go before i can get to her level of charity.

category 2:  Dr. Jemilah Mahmood (her bio is the amazing muslim women thread).  She is one of the few women gynacologist in the country, highly sought after.  And yet, instead of being happy to be in the confort of her air conditioned office, highly paid, practising in a prestigous private hospital, she spent her time organising medical reliefs to trouble spots around the world, and even sets out to these places like Iraq, Afghanistan.

Praise be Allah, how strong this lady is to do charitable acts.   I just wish to have a drop of her courage, determination to do good...

When I was younger, this hadith totally changed my perception of how I should deal with women :

"It is better to be struck in the head by an iron pick than to touch a woman not lawful for you".

Every muslim male (and maybe even female) teenager should be drilled in this hadith.

Assalamu aleikum brothers and sisters,

Nice subject you have started - may we all benefit from it inshaAllah.

All of the Noble Quran is pure wisdom and inspiring, I will quote some  of the ayah that inspire me the most.

Surah Ghafir – Ayah 16-17

Yawma Hum Barizuna La Yakhfaa Alaa Allahi Minhum Shay'un Liman Al-Mulku Al-Yawma Lillahi Al-Wahidi Al-Qahhari (Ghafir: 16).

Al-Yawma Tujzaa Kullu Nafsin Bima Kasabat La Zulma Al-Yawma 'Inna Allaha Sari’u Al-Hisabi (Ghafir: 17).

040.016 The Day whereon they will (all) come forth: not a single thing concerning them is hidden from Allah. Whose will be the dominion that Day?" That of Allah, the One the Overpowering!

040.017 That Day will every soul be requited for what it earned; no injustice will there be that Day, for Allah is Swift in taking account.

Surah Al-Fajr – Ayah 27-30
Ya 'Ayyatuha An-Nafsu Al-Mutma'innahu (Al-Fajr: 27).
Arji`i 'Ilaa Rabbiki Radiyatan Mardiyahan (Al-Fajr: 28).
Fadkhuli Fi `Ibadi (Al-Fajr: 29).
Wa Adkhuli Jannati (Al-Fajr: 30).

089.027 (To the righteous soul will be said:) "O (thou) soul, in (complete) rest and satisfaction!

089.028 "Come back thou to thy Lord,- well pleased (thyself), and well-pleasing unto Him!

089.029 "Enter thou, then, among My devotees!

089.030 "Yea, enter thou My Heaven!

May we all benefit from the wisdom of Al Quran - May Allah enhance our understanding of the Quran and strengthen us in our efforts to act according to the sunnah of our belowed Profet (SAW)

May we all reach the level and state of iman, taqwa and satisfaction that we hear the beautiful sound of the ayah Ya 'Ayyatuha An-Nafsu Al-Mutma'innahu

Wa salam

My granddaughter   :)
When I hold her in my arms it is hope for the future
she inspires me to be a better person so I am someone she can look up to
and what is cool is my son and I have sat down a couple times since her birth and talked at length at what was wrong in our childhoods and what we both want different for this little girl and we are determained to change all the dysfunctions of the past and she is our inspiration for happier future for her and her children.
I don't know if this makes sense but it is what inspires me.

I want to work harder to leave her something.
I want to be better to teach her something.
I want to be someone she respects and who she knows will always be here for her and someone she can depend upon.
She is the reason I want to change the world   :)
or at least the little corner of it I can.

a smile, a startling sunrise, raging sunset...

the waves crashing forcefully on empty shores..

an infant's unexpected smile, little hands grasping to touch an angel nearby

everyday beauty that unfolds and unravels to give us a glimpse into the infinite within.

Sacredness manifesting from every blade of grass, every sparkling ray, falling droplets of rain cascading down my cheeks...hardly glimpsed rainbows hiding behind clouds of gloom.

my husband's kind eyes flashing with depth.

Allah's words trembling their way through the iciness within, crumbling mountains of shuddering illusions and piercing the crystals of vanity forming and reforming...

the dark solitudes of my struggling nights....the expectance of Fajr's dew drops raining mercy on my bleeding heart.

disconsolate tears of disconnection from the source of All Light, Tranquility, and Beauty gently wiping the rusty dimensions of my veiled sight.

Hope for His Mercy despite my oft sinning, wretched self...the yearning for fulfilling the Ultimate purpose of my existence that keeps propelling me to wake up in the midst of my darkest nightmares...and keep clawing when I touch the saddest moment of despair.

other struggling souls along the path...those who rise above the tired and weary masses, to shift the horizons and show us that with Allah the impossible suddenely seems sooo...trivial....nothing more than a speck of dust in the timeless abode of eternity.

it doesn't take much to inspire me...yet lately....the dark wintry clouds seem to be latching on a lot longer than yesterday's fleeting chill.

sigh...Jazaki Allahu Khayran Serena...this was a nice reminder.

struggling sis... :-)

The present state of Muslim world, Allah's help in my efforts, the inspiration the readers find in my little works...

as salaamu alaykum,
everyday beauty that unfolds and unravels to give us a glimpse into the infinite within.
reminds me of a poem I read this morning:

is your caravan lost?

it is,
if you no longer weep from gratitude or happiness,
or weep
from being cut down with the awareness
of the extraordinary beauty
that emanates from the most simple act
and common object.

my dear, is your caravan lost?

at least come to know
that someone untied your camel last night
for I hear its gentle voice
calling for God in the desert.

Allah (SWT)!  For all his creations!  Man, the animals, the sea, the land, the mountains, the valleys, the sky, the sun, the moon, the trees, the rocks, the insects, the fish, etc.  Life and Death!

When a storm cloud passes overhead, some people thrust their fingers in their ears to block out the noise of thunder. With every flash of lightning they walk a few steps; but when darkness returns, their eyes are so dazzled that they can see nothing—and thus they stand still. Hypocrites are like such people; their hearts are afraid, and their minds are blind. If God wanted, he could take away their sight and hearing; he has power over all things.

-Qur'an, Al-Baqara, Surah 2:19-20

Our Rasulullah (SAW)! The man who has touched and continues to touch so many lives and an example easy to emulate but we dismally fail to.  The kindest man to ever live.  The most patient man.  The most forgiving man.  The man who is still an inspiration to the world.  Here is one of his hadiths that inspires me to no end:

I saw a man in Paradise for a deed as simple as cutting down a tree that stood in the middle of a road, causing wayfarers much distress.

-The Prophet Muhammad, as reported by Ibn Umar

My Dad!  The man who raised me, my sisters and brothers.  The man who taught me the art of being patient.  The man who treated us with kindness, respect and dignity and always reminded us to accord other people the same. The man who taught us as much as he could about Islam and our heritage.  The man who loved us like nobody else.  The man whom when I realized way dying, made me wonder if the world would ever be the same again, despite the fact that I was 32 years old at the time, had a home of my own and two children.  MAY ALLAH SUBHANNA WATAALLAH GIVE HIM A PLACE IN JANNATUL FIRDOWASA, AMEEN.

My Children!  The two people who have made me realize how blessed I am.  The two people who made all the pain I went through in my married life worth it.   The two people who have made me realize the GREATNESS OF ALLAH for he gave them to me.  ALLAHU AKBAR, ALHAMDU LILLAH.

My Family! My sisters, my brothers, my aunts, my mum, my uncles, my cousins and all extended relatives who have contributed to my life in one way or another to make me who I am today.

My Friends! Both ladies and gentlemen who have been with me through thick and thin and my worth never diminished in their eyes.  People who accepted me for who I am without expecting anything in return.

Wasalaam.
A life-changing moment?   ~~  Something that just took your breath away?
Hands down my most inspiring moment to date was when I received a copy of "The meaning of the Glorious Qur’an" & opened it to read for the first time... Alhamdu lillah. (Understand, I had been introduced to Islam but was not to the point of seriously considering it as a possibility for conversion /reversion). I’ll never forget the sensation of reading those lines in the manner I did & saying to myself, “it’s written, what a mercy”. I have a long way to go in my journey, but that perhaps was the first profession uttered from my heart that Islam was indeed the true religion.
