[slm] all,

Hey guys.  I have already made a few posts, but for those of you who didn't see those, I would just like to formally introduce myself to you guys.  I am not only new to this board, but to Islam as well; I became a Muslim just before Ramadan this year.  I was raised a Christain, and was a pretty strong Christian at that, until my faith began to dwindle towards the end of high school (for multiple reasons, but mainly because I was so strongly tempted by wordly pleasures at the time).  My life was heading in the wrong direction.  In my 2nd year of college, however, I met two very strong Muslims, now both among my best of friends.  Seeing how they lived their lives inspired me and caused me to begin to learn about Islam.  Unlike anything else that I had ever heard or read, everything I learned about Islam just made perfect sense to me.  My life has never been as peaceful as it has been in the last 2 months or so (since I became Muslim).  Halfway through my 3rd year in college now, and Allah (subhana wa ta'ala) has made my life much easier (the work load hasn't changed or anything, but now I can certainly handle everything in my life with much more ease).

I would also like to thank all of you; learning from the posts here on this board and seeing such a strong community of Muslims have really helped me to strengthen my faith.  Despite all the recent talk of the negativity which might be present on this board, I still feel a very strong and supportive community here.  Any of you guys can feel free to instant message me about whatever, whenever you want.  Have a bebzi on me [].

Peace, Blessings, and Mercy of Allah be with you all,
Saam   ;-)

Hello Saam, welcome to the boards. It's is a wonderful place to post, read and learn.

As for the negativity, heck, even with the best of friends and families, they all have their bumps in the road   ;)  No biggie,
Rough times make us take a look at ourselves and move on to better time with one another.

The folks are all great here, I've been here 2 years or more now.
It is a wonderful group and I know you'll enjoy your stay here.

What are you studying? If I may ask.
Where are you from?

How much have you learned about Islam since you reverted, bro?
[/quote]

Bro Ahmad,

Well, I had started learning about it this past June... I still have a long ways to go... I, and (I feel) the rest of us Muslims, will still be learning even on the day we die, insh'Allah... but I have a few books from the masjid in my city that are really helpful.  I already learned much about the rights of non-muslims and human rights in Islam, especially because the minute I got home for winter break, my family started grilling me about all the misconceptions they had about Islam on these topics.

Sis IMuslim_4Ever,

not really sure... it's the name my parents gave me  ;)

Sis Azizah,

Well... I'm doing one degree in biomedical engineering and another in classical voice performance (quite a contrast, huh?).  I'm from south texas, but my parents were born and raised in Iran.

Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be with you all.

Bro. Bulwark of Islam,

Hi.  I'm from a town maybe an hour or so south of Austin called Victoria... you probably heard of it, but it's small enough that you might not have.  I actually don't really live there now, since I go to college in Baltimore, it's kinda become my new home.  Actually though, I did one summer at UT Austin, and it's a really nice city mash'Allah.

Wassalam,
Saam

Welcome to the board and to Islam!

I am also a revert to Islam. I also took my shehadah during Ramadan (6 years ago) AlhamduliAllah.

You said your parents came from Iran. So do you speak Farsi? I'm semi-fluent. It's such a beautiful language, just rolls off the tongue. If you don't mind me asking, what religion are your parents?

I admire all the people on this board who excel in science, and I wish I was among ya'll  :)

Masalaam or Ba Mani Khudah,

Welcome to Madina Brother & Welcome to Islam all the more… Alhamdu lillah
Peace, Blessings & Mercy of Allah (swt) to you as well.

This is really a great supportive group here ...  I too have always believed that.

I as well, am a convert/revert to Islam & can say I experienced quite the same sensation of peace as you did. I think I personally had a lot of issues that surfaced that I needed to work out one by one, but each one has only affirmed & rooted my faith & brought more tranquility & peace in dealing with the inevitable tasks this life has to offer... So very thankful at Allah (swt)’s Mercy… Alhamdu lillah

May Allah (swt) continue to assist in guiding us all & keeping us rooted in faith … Ameen

  [slm] all,

Thanks again to all of you guys for your du'a and your warm welcomes.

Sister lady_murasaki_sa,

good to hear theres more biomedical engineers out there  ;D , it's always a good thing to do  ;) .

Sister dazed,

baleh, yeh kami farsi harf mizanam  ;D , vali fahmidan am az porsidan am kheili behtar ast  ;D .  Cheh jaleb keh shoma ham mitoonin farsi harf bezanin, faamil etoon irani hastan??  (Sorry, I hope no one felt left out by that little bit of farsi, just wanted to speak it a little... indeed it does roll off the tounge qutie nicely  :)  )

No problem w/ u asking, my parents are Christians, but they came from a Muslim heritage, if you will... they weren't really raised religious... they became Christian after leaving Iran, but before I was born... so unfortunately, all I knew about Islam from my parents were the negative connotations they had of it from their experience with the iranian revolution of '79 (all the political murders, etc.) .  InshAllah, I can show them true Islam by the way I live my life... please make du'a for my family so they can better understand God's will.

Peace, Blessings, and Mercy of God be with you all,

Saam  ;-)
