| [slm] How are you all? i need information about Washington DC please.. i joined a program in college, PLEN... and we are going to DC for five days for women's math, science, and technology seminar... i got a scholorship for that... so i decided to go... inshallah its gonna be a good experience... ... the thing is that i will have to go alone! no family ... its true that there will be other girls from my college, but i don't know them! i will have to room with strangers... there is good security though... this programs take place every year... and lots of Rutgers students do go there every year... so what i need is to know the place a little bit more before i go... is anyone here lives around DC? or in DC? will you help me with info? i will stay near Dupoint Circle... i need to keep myself alive those 5 days! what am i gonna eat though? i know they are not going to serve us halal food! cuz i am gonna be the only muslim girl there... is there a mosque near Dupoint Circle? or near New Hampshire AVe? is there any islamic place? halal resturant in walking distance? Help please!!!! ma salaama |

| [slm] Sis IMuslim_4Ever, I live in Baltimore now, pretty close to DC... what i know about Dupont Circle is that there are a lot of restaurants/movie theatres/shops and like places in that area... there is a persian fast food restaurant there called Moby Dick, but Im not sure if they're kabob is very strictly halal (I mean it's certainly not pork ;) ). I know a lot of people who live really close to that area; I will ask around, and insh'allah try to get back to you with more info. I do know that there is a metro station stop in Dupont Circle, and once you're on the metro, you can go almost anywhere in DC for only a dollar or 2. | [slm] sister, Wow, I didnt know you were leaving tomorrow :o . Well I was able to find a mosque less than a mile walk from the center of Dupont Circle... that would be Islamic Center of Washington its address is 2551 Massachusetts Ave NW Washington, DC 20008 and phone: (202) 332-8343 unfortunately i wasnt able to find out too much about halal restaurants, but i think if you can find middle eastern/north african/pakistani restaurants on the web, chances are they have halal meats... and you can always call them and ask beforehand to make sure... there are 2 websites that turned out not to be too helpful that listed halal restaurants in DC, but you can check them if you want: www.zabihah.com/_subregion.php?subregion_id=72 www.aaagw.org/Washington/halal_restaurants.htm I hope this helps out.
