[slm] ;D Well of course it's important to have someone teach you how to read the Arabic alphabet first, cuz it's really ez once you can read it fluently and insha' Allah with practice it's actually pretty easy to learn for most people who don't know it. The best way to get the pronunciations of the letters correct is to have a teacher, short of that or in combination with it a CD or tape or any other audio. For those who don't know how to read Arabic but wanna get to reciting straight away, I'd have to say transliterations combined with audio, and the audio is absolutely essential in this case because transliterations really don't hit the sounds correctly. The transliteration just helps to remember the basic sound of the word, the audio is how you know what it's really supposed to sound like :) Also for non-Arabic speakers, short of going and learning Arabic (which I know many of us actually do want to do some day :)), I really think it's important to be able to remember the meaning of the verse your memorizing in English before memorizing it in Arabic, because as beautiful as the Quran is, it's much more beneficial if you know what it all means ;D If you can't get a CD, you can find recitations of the Quran all over the internet to help with your pronunciation, if you'd like them just ask and I'll post a link or two. [slm] ;D |

[slm] If you are looking for a site or book that explains the rules of tajweed (the rules applied when reciting the Qur'an) there is: www.abouttajweed.com For books: If you want an introduction to tajweed, without great detail, the book by Umm Muhammmed: A Brief Introduction to Tajweed will do. If you are looking for more indepth knowledge of tajweed: Tajweed Rules of the Qur'an part one and part two by Kareema Czerepinski. For recitation, a very good link is www.reciter.org. [slm] |
