Who agrees with this writer?

Salaam

Found this on a website, who apart from me agrees with the sentiment?

Chris/Adam

"In contrast to the other religions on Earth, Islam has followed what is generally called a reverse growth rate, or, to put it another way, Islam has regressed where most of the other Abramic religions have advanced.

One example of this would be the treatment of women.  Before Mohammed, the treatment of women in the Islamic heartland was barbaric.  They were raped, forced into arranged marriages (which is a form of rape) and generally treated dreadfully.  When Mohammed appeared, he stopped that, even offering to devoice his wives if they did not want to married to a prophet and offering to devoice a woman who had been subjected to an arranged marriage.  (Hadiths differ on what happened, but the principle is the same.)

Today, arranged marriages are common among Muslims, when the other religions have finally ended that practice.  Further, many Muslims engage in forbidden activities, drinking, smoking, being rude to parents and not praying.  Worst of all, many Muslims engage in knee-jerk support of the worst regimes on the planet, simply because they wear Muslim garb.  Do the words ‘Kuffr in Muslim clothing suggest themselves?”

Why has Islam detoriateied to this pass?"

Wa 'alaykum as-salaam,

Whoever wrote that have their ideas/thoughts jumbled up.

The author doesn't seem to know the difference between Islaam and Muslims. Islaam is the way of life. Muslim is the follower. Islaam is a complete and perfect way of life.
drinking, smoking, being rude to parents and not praying
.

These things are haraam, but they don't take you out of the fold of Islaam. Not praying...well...I think there's ikhtilaaf [difference of opinion amongst the scholars] in that area...no? (someone, help me out). I think most scholars say that the one who doesn't pray is on the borderline of kufr.
But thats not the point. The point is that there is a difference between the way of life and the follower. Between Islaam and Muslims. So, when Muslims commit haraam acts, *Islaam* ain't deteriorating, its the *Muslims*.

So, to answer your question (finally), I disagree with the author.

Not true.  Islam is the fastest growing religion currently.  The reverse is on the followers - the Muslims themselves and not the religion.
Totally FALSE.  I live in a country where the majority are Christians but most of them practice tradition on the side hence marry several wives.  There is the legal wife, married in church and there are the other wives married in accordance with traditional customs which allow the man to have as many wives as he wishes.  If the man dies, all the other wives and children have a stake in whatever he has left behind.  This is when Christianity takes a back bench except when the body is being laid to rest with a cross as the headstone.  And even after that, traditional rituals are undetaken.  It happened when our former vice-president died.  Our president has a second wife legally married traditional wise with children.
In Africa, even the most educated men stills treat women with disdain and utter contempt.  When all is said and done, a woman is just a woman and her place is in the kitchen ......  It is a traditional thing which cuts across all tribes on the continent.  It has nothing to do with either Islam or Christianity.  In the twenty first century, it is still happening, believe it or not.  African women in urban areas are asserting their rights.  But they often come across descrimination and lots of other injustices gender wise.

So, my dear Chris, the author is just another writer who is writing without checking his facts and based his article on typical assumptions and stereotypes labelled against ISLAM as usual.  It does not surprise me at all.  There is no GRAIN OF SALT IN IT.

Well summed, Sis.

ummm..is that guy a writer??! cuz his grammer really leaves much to be desired. What part of his post do you agree most with?

When comparing Islamic values with what is portrayed with Muslim behavior, I become really sad. Islam has so much to offer us, a vision, a dignity, a fulfillment that finds no other recourse in any other activity we could be engaged in..after all what shadow would not recoil at the illumination of the sublime in our hearts and minds?!

yet as a collective we have failed to live up to the beautiful trust Allah bestowed us with...as a collective we are suffering...wallowing in our muted heart's cries and struggling to make sense of the hopelessness around us.

But what does that mean? Is Islam becoming obsolete (Astaghfirullah?) Allah's Truth will continue to reign over falsehood, His Light will continue to manifest itself subtly in whomever He Wills to Guide and surely bands of believers continue to rise in all corners of the globe, loving Allah, struggling in His path regardless of the fleeting trials they go through....

When we do comparative religious studies...Islam is the only Force that is threatening the Secularist status quo...Christianity has decayed to the point that those who actually go to church are simply seeking communal fellowship and vicarious atonement...no real meaning/fullfilment is achieved through the rote rituals. In Judaism, the only real manifestation of it is seen through "political" jews in dealing with zionism etc. Theologians in both religions have had to change *fundamental* pieces of their books to accomodate a growing and dissatisfied outlook on religion.

Even as the Muslim world decays, there is hope....more and more disenchanted people are finding their way into the only comprehensive lifestyle that offers a real alternative to cheap consumerism, and decadent lifestyles...but as a symbolic token of our times, we may find ourselves being more and more alienated from the slumbering masses...

Islam started as something strange...and will end on the same vein...

we are simply weary travellers on this path, praying for Guidance.

your sis in struggle, :-)

Are we saying that "every" arranged marriage is 'forced marriage'?

I would like ppl to comment on the quoted part to come out of a shock from this writer.

Chris, buddy, i think people are right. This ga'A isn't a real writer but just a 'cut it there put it here' sort of person. Just out of curiosity, was it Irshad Manji ???
