I came across these pictures a little while ago and ever since i've been playing with my scarves trying to figure out how to wear these styles but haven't managed to make any headway (the pun was not intentional  ;D ).
Sisters, could you please pretty please help me out.

:-)

Oops I almost forgot, here are the pictures,

oooooooooooo, I like those. Thank you for posting them.

I just started wearing a scarf and only part time so far. I am a little self conscience (or however you spell it) about it yet. But my heart feels it is right. I still let my bangs show, cause I think I look like a dork without them. And I know that should not be a concern. It sort of defeats the purpose, but atleast I am trying to follow my heart.

What do the sisters do about long hair? I like wearing mine up in a clip when I'm busy and that in a scarf makes your head look malformed   :D
so was thinking if I wear my hair down the scarf in the back needs to me to my waist if hair is to be covered? And what is cool is the first 2 pics posted above look like what would work but how would you cut the fabric and fold it?

What about bangs?

Long hair, I've noticed that most often sisters just twist it all into a bun, it makes it easier to deal with, i.e. you're not always worrying about it peeking out from beneath the back of your scarf. But speaking from experience putting it up can be painful -- it gives me awful headaches if I leave my hair up like that for the whole day. Another thing that might work is the clips that have the little sac/pouch attached to slip your hair in. What I usually do is french braid my hair (sisters its not hard once you get the hang of it, trust me - if you need instructions, let me know) and once I've fastened the end of the braid, I tuck it underneath the braid (when you french braid, you end up with a hollow space underneath the braid) so I just work the braid in to that hollow and hold it in place with bobby pins or a hair elastic wrapped around the bottom end.

Hmm sister Azizah, about leaving your hair down, you would have to use a big scarf to cover it all, or you could try a dupatta (the scarf that comes with pakistani/indian traditional clothes) its just a rectangle, about 2m by 1m - the size varies - its not set in stone or anything  ;) Another thing you could try is wearing a jacket or coat overtop when you go out, with a regular size scarf, then you wouldn't have to worry about putting your hair up because it would be covered by your jacket.

I'm not sure what kind of scarves are being used in those pictures (its what i'm hoping to find out) either square or rectangle.

Here's a site I came across that'll help you out for sure http://home.clara.net/najm/hijab.htm

sis Aziza, several internet stores for muslimas sell a lace head band thing that can be used to cover the bangs then you can wear a scarf further back.  It also helps avoid looking too hard core for mixed company, darker colors conceal the hair more completely but ligter colors are really pretty ;D
Just thought I'd put that out there.

Hmm, I'm not too crazy about the first one. It looks like she's got a cone head!  :P But the third one is real pretty!  :-*
As for me, I've tried different styles but it always feels wierd to change cause you start thinking people are going to notice you look like... well not "you" or think it anyways. The lace head bands are nice but can be constricting and itchy if your not used to them. Plus they look bad under see through hijabs. At least I think so.
Speaking of hijabs  :-[...I just made an invention which got me all happy! I'm in the medical field and so it always ticked me off whenever I had to put on my stethescope. (If they're put underneath it looks like you got shot in the head with an arrow and if you pull the hijab behing your ears you look like Dumbo). Well now I can place them without having to do either! Anyway, if any of you sisters are interested just pop me a note. (Free self advertisement! Hehe..how lame is that!  :D)

Asalamualaykum, i think the scarfs being used are sheila's which are really long reactangle scarfs, that can have lace down one side or something, and i guess for the second one she's tied it behind her head, then brought one of the sides which she's kept longer than the other, brought it round the front..i dont know if that made any sense, inshallah it did.

And YES PLZ HELP ME OUT ABOUT THE STETHESCOPE im using it under the hijab and so i have to ruin whatever style i have on that day, and im sure i look wierd, what's ur solution? a 2 piece scarf?

all this talk of style got me to playing around so I tried using one hijab or shayla twisted as a turban for an under scarf and another hijab or shayla as an over scarf and I thought it looked pretty cool.  Then I thought because the turban has a rim around it and yet looks stylish under another scarf rather than weird the rim could be useful to help soften the apearance of a stethescope's ear peices and give an apearance of profesionalism rather than only serving to make the hijab look cumbersom and agrivating.
Just a thought

asalamualaykum, nope not yet, but soon inshallah, a few more years inshallah, plz pray i get thro the heavy study load.

Another style for the hijab: there's this new style out over here, were you wear a cotton plain hijab that you tie tightly and tuck into your shirt, and then a semi transparent patterened sheila worn loosly over it.

as salaamu alaykum,

for the style in the third pic:

hmm.. have you ever worn a scarf pinned back in a way that shows your ears/neck?  you drape the scarf over your forehead and then take the two sides that would normally drape down to cover your neck/chest, and pull them back to meet at the nape of your neck and pin it.. so that way the scarf is kind of smooth and tight across your head..  I think that's all she did, *but* she used a rectangular shaped scarf, and she make it so that the side draping from the left is longer than the side draping from the right.. so after she pinned the two pieces back at the nape, she took the piece from the left side, brought it to the front, draped it across her chest/neck and pinned it up in the back.

the only reason why that type of hijab style is annoying is because you tend to get little 'horns' pointing up at the top of your head from the folds.. you can see it a little bit in that pic towards the right side of her head.. and also it can get kind of puffy under your chin, so you have to keep those folds looking nice and smooth :)

nice style though.. I like that its different but still covers the neck and chest.. thats sometimes hard to do.  if you find any more pics, could you please post them up?

wasalaamu alaykum :)

How do you fix the problem of your hijab sliding back or forward? I know about the caps that go underneath, but girls with round faces look fat with them, and they look kind of uncomfortable if you have to wear glasses, not too mention most stores sell them for like 10 dollars. Anyone have any suggestions.  :-)

I have a round face with glasses. What works best for me is a cotton bandana. Just bought three at AC Moore for About $2.

The best one I ever had was one of Ali's cloth thin diapers, folded trianglar. In the heat of the scorching summer, it absorbed all sweat!

I like the lacey headband style underscarves. I've never had any problems with my glasses and they're so thin they aren't really noticeable, but they do stay in place. I always attach my shayla's to them with a really pretty straight pen.  www.alhannah.com has them for 2.50 each plus shipping, but you could probably find them cheaper. I always like to look at ebay first.

I tried using a bandana but it keeps coming undone. I was going to order a cap off the net but I'm a little wary after reading about people's experiences with different companies. Also does the lace touch your face or is it like totally under your hijab, cause I can't stand lace touching my skin. I'm thinking maybe if I buy a cap and keep it under my hijab it won't make me look fat. Cause I tried it with the bandana, and my friend was like " wow you gained weight". :'(

I wear my lace undercap right at my hairline and you could pull it pack farther if you wanted to, but the one I have is really soft and not the stiff itchy type of lace.  I'd recommend trying one. I get the headband type instead of the full, because the full give me a headache. :(
As for online companies I've dealt with Al Hediya, Al Hannah, and Jelbab.com. They were all great. I know jelbab has like a 40$ minimum per order though.  Again, this is why I'd recommend ebay.  You're also safe on ebay cuz you can set up a paypal account. Also, if the seller does you wrong, you can leave negative feedback and then noone will buy from them in the future; therefore, I've had nothing but really good experiences with the sellers on ebay. Just doing a real quick search, several came up. Here's one:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=4280&item=3290182079&rd=1
For that price, it couldn't hurt to try one. Good luck.  :-)

If you dont have a muslim sounding name, it is not a good idea to try to buy from alhanna, I've had bad experinces withthem but muslimclothingonline.com is good and they have the lace headbands, and almuhajabat.com also has them and they also have good service. Both have a lot of color choices and good prices.

Khariya, here's a another suggestion for you  :)

Go to your nearest dollar store and check out their hair accessories section  ;) I found these really great stretchy headbands 3 for $1, and ever since I've started using them I've had no problem with slippery hijabs, or stray hairs peeking out. Alhamdulillah

Yeah I did try those head bands, there good for a while but they start slipping at the worst times, like during my cow eye dissection for anatomy lab.  It was extremely annoying.  :-/ I think I'm going to try the person out on ebay. Inshallah it'll work out fine. Thanks for the suggestion anyway.  :)
