I've gotten 3-10 of those average each week for the last 3 years at least.. Just ignore em.. or better yet block the address as junkmail so it puts them in bulk so the rest of us don't have to deal with em.

My son taught me about pc's and emails approx 5 years back, he taught me one major rule.

If you don't know who it's from..... DON'T EVEN OPEN IT.
I actually had to make him that promise in order for me to have him teach me. He requested I abide by 4 rules,
he is sooooo protective of his mommy    :)    ;D

bro abubakr, mike is being sarcastic... his normal sesame street(madina mode) :)
we're talking about emails that say someone is the sister/brother/uncle/daughter/mother/son of some nigerian/ugandan/austrian prince/princess/president and wants to (out of the charity of their heart) give us all their money as long as we send them all our financial information... well hopefully u get the idea...ie. (it's called a  money scheme/scam/rip-off which is btw illegal.)  if not.. there's a real nice bridge for sale if ur interested ;)

slm,

I don't know if anyone noticed but I just changed all the emails so that instead of the @ it says --AT-- . This should help prevent robots from collecting emails by going through the board's messages and other programs, and hopefully prevent a lot of spam junk mail and computer viruses that come through unknowingly!!

So if you want to send someone an email change the --AT-- to a @

But just remember that if your email is public there's no way to prevent someone from taking the email, changing the @ and then adding you to a list manually.

104. Let there arise out of you a band of people inviting to all that is good, enjoining what is right, and forbidding what is wrong: They are the ones to attain felicity.

If we do nothing against them, what is the difference with madinatulKafirin or madinatulMusyrikin ?

That is the best thing to do. If you write back you are adding yourself to hundreds of more spam lists and putting yourself on their "naive person" lists. They then proceed to use your email to dig up everything about you including birthdate, social security number etc, etc. Reporting it with the spam button and deleting it saves other people from going through the time, expense and hassle and bandwith for the rest of us.

Sometimes "doing nothing" is the best thing to do!!!! Same goes for forwarding those "lists of bad anti-islamic sites". People who "try to do something" end up doing far worse damage.. ie publicizing those sites, increasing their hits and web traffic, confusing more Muslims, making Muslims look crazy, emotional, illogical and hypocritical. This tends to be a huge problem of ours. (Read my comments in the Islamaphobia thread.) We're all about emotion and "doing something" and sometimes that "something" does far worse damage than we could imagine cause we just don't bother to get all the facts and assess the harm versus benefit in a logical manner.

I'll be taking out allowing images in signatures in the next update. It's just getting too overwhelming and slowing down the loading of the board. Sorry....

Scamming the scammers ~ Thu Jul 24, 2:13 AM ET
JOHANNESBURG (AFP) - The e-mail scams, often from the widow of an African dictator, or a bank official, promise untold wealth in return for helping to transfer millions of dollars, but now the "scam-baiters" are hitting back.
They have even succeeded in scamming the scammers: one persuaded his contact to send him five dollars as a sign of good faith; another induced a scammer to send him a sample of the gold dust they were planning to launder -- and used it to buy beer for his friends. And one even got a photo of his contact holding up a sign saying "I am a dildo".
They do it with humour -- one anti-scammer said his funds would be available as soon as he had sold his shares in the Brooklyn Bridge -- but they warn amateurs to be careful.

Well at least we have the ayat and able to read and understand, but how to implement ? Could we as Madinat Al-Muslimeen ? Or should we build a new Madinat Al-Mujahidin ? Perhaps it's the reason why muslimin can't be united ? Or as
. . . . . . .

It's not something that is personal.
