question about hadith

[slm],
i have a question that i have been wondering about for quite a while. this hadith:

Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
"There are some loyal servants of ALLAH who, though
they are neither prophets nor martyrs, yet they shall be elevated to
such high status by God on the Day of Judgement that the Prophets and
martyrs will envy their good fortune." The illustrious companions
(May ALLAH be pleased with them) submitted: "O Prophet of ALLAH
(SAWS)! Who will be these fortunate people?" The Holy Prophet (SAWS)
affirmed: "These will be the people who loved each other on the basis
of the religion of God - they were not related to one another by
blood, nor had any commercial connection with each other. I swear by God,
the faces of these people will be glowing with radiance nay they
will be the emblems of pure light. When all the people shall be
trembling with fear, they shall be free from fear. When all the
people will be grief-stricken, the shall know no sorrow." [ Tabrani}

it refers to the people who love each other only for the sake of Allah. do these two people have to be the same gender? cuz it doesn't say specifically.
if anyone knows...plz help!!

Thank you sister Nida for this hadith.  This was repeated to me so many times when I was growing up and I loved to tell people about it untill, well... also its good to know that it is part of a collection.
Any way I think that is a question I remember was asked a lot, especially by me,  ::) but I think, well, I dont think we can withold infromation or aid from each other based on gender or anything else if the other person needs it, but I remember one answer I got was that women tend to want to see good in men who talk to them and men want to see good in women who talk to them and it is easier atleast a little easier for each gender to see members of their own gender realisticly.
Just because you have love for some people for all the right reasons it doesnt mean you want to do harmful things with them like behaving with them in ways that arent prescribed for achieving jannah. But there are lots of stories in the hadith that show women speaking to men and teaching men and passing hadith to men but it is sometimes also part of the hadith the ways that they were able to do so and also stay within the guidelines of good behavior. For some reason it seems to me that women did this more often than men that is they were the instigator or the one information was sought from.
But one hadith I can only remember some of and not all the wording is related by aiesha that once she was with the prophet and several of the companions each asked to enter their hut one at a time.  He covered himself differently for each one based on each ones idea of modesty so, he explained to Aiesha, that they would feel comfortable to ask him what they had each come to ask.
I think we can all have the highest level of love for eachother and benifit eachother without adding to or subtracting from the rules and that each individual has different levels of interpretation that they can effectively weild on the roll in their own lives dealing with exactly what they are each faced with.
Well, I hope that helps,
Salaam,
Al-ajnabia  :-)
