Asslamo alaikum,
can any of you help me in getting some of the areas of zip codes of some nice and decent neighborhoods in Albany with local mosques.
I might be getting a new job in Albany and thus would like to know that before I move but I do want a nice area of my family but the one which is very close to the mosque.
jazakallah

as salaamu alaykum wa rahmatullah bro,

I was born and raised in Albany :) there are actually quite a few different masajid in the Albany area.. check out: http://www.albany.edu/~msa/directory.html -- this is a list of local resources from the SUNY Albany MSA Page.

Masjid as-Salaam is not in a very safe area, but it is convenient for people who work in downtown Albany or nearby.

Masjid al-Hidaya in Troy is actually very small -- a renovated house, that was turned into a masjid with the growing Muslim community stemming from the nearby university, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.  It is about twenty minutes outside of Albany.  It is home to some pretty amazing classes with Sh. Mokhtar Maghraoui and others, and also has a weekend school for the kids on Fridays and Sundays.

The Islamic Center of the Capital District is one of the oldest masajid in the area, with proper facilities and a full-time Islamic school as well as the weekend school.  It's in Schenectady, which is about 20-25 minutes outside of Albany.  They have no full-time imam at the time being.

There are also plans underway for building a new masjid in Latham, NY (about 20 minutes outside Albany), so there are actually some families who have bought houses near there, in anticipation of having a masjid closeby for their children :)

Let me know if you have any more questions!

take care,

wasalaamu alaykum :)

As-salaam aleikum
I live in the Albany area as well. Although I can't give any zip codes off the top of my head there are some nice areas, which are close to the masjid in Schnectady, like Guilderland and Colonie that have pretty decent neighborhoods for the family. Hope you find what you're looking for! :)

Assalamualaikum
Dearest sisters

I will be travelling alone to Albany, sometime in June, to attend a programme there. This
will be my first experience to travel on my own into a new territory. I am hopeful if I
can get in touch with sisters in Albany and make new friends so that my stay then would be
more beneficial and meaningful. By the way, I am all the way from Asia.

Look forward to any replies.

Salam

May Allah reward all of you who have replied.
I have decided not to take that particular job in Albany and therefore won't be moving.
But again, I do thank everyone here,  you all have been a great help.
