[slm] What is the *bestest* Seerah book you have read? I really need a good inspiring book specifically about the Rasul [saw], to cure this sense of alienation I feel right now. Please help:) I have the "sealed Nectar"..but I wanted something that maybe focused less on historical details and more like an inspiring biography of him. Our resident Seerah expert *cough* Jannah *cough*..I am waiting to hear from ya:) and others too Inshaallah:) Se7en you once referred to a seerah book as not being "poetic" and all..is there one that actually is??? i wouldn't mind that recommendation:) aight..Jazakumu Allahu Khayran :-) [wlm] |

[slm] One of the best seerah books i've found is Adil Salahi's book, "Muhammad, Man and Prophet." here is a link for this book + reviews: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/186204290X/qid=1076386449//ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl14/104-2813268-0817513?v=glance&s=books&n=507846 The only negative review is by a non muslim...dreaming it seems ::) |

wlm, I think there was one thread where Amal was asking about a few. You can check that out inshaAllah in the archives. I think they're all pretty good..there's just so many different 'types'. But if ur looking for inspirational/motivational stuff probably reading sahabah stories might be better. |

[slm] There's a book by Haykal "The Life of Muhammad" which has parsed down the miracles of the Prophet SAW and presents the seerah from a "scientific" perspective. Not one of my bestest, but rather good. |

[slm] There's only one book you need sis (for what you're looking for). I'm surprised nobody has mentioned it yet ... Muhammad [saw], by Martin Lings. Enjoy :) Wassalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah P.S. There are 3 or 4 passages in that book that are very spurious, but otherwise it's an awesome read. |

[slm] [quote] There are 3 or 4 passages in that book that are very spurious, but otherwise it's an awesome read [/quote] Actually brother, that's precisely why I hesitate to recommend biographies by non-Muslim authors (I'm just assuming here...haven't actually read the book) After all's said and done, I believe that only a Muslim writer who believes in the Prophet can do justice to his seerah. What do you think? |

wlm, Martin Lings is Muslim, but agreed the true sincerity and love of the prophet [saw] can only come out in books written by Muslims. Also try Zakaria Bashier books.. very good reads. The first is better than the second... |

Salams, How about Shaikh Hamza Yusuf's series of tapes on the life of the Prophet (pbuh)? He does speak with great eloquence and I can't recall even his detractors having problems with it. |

[slm] what are the 3-4 spurious passages? are they about the necessity of consulting the mrs before bringing a mrs mark II? martin lings' book is by far the best book. i have ready many, all the ones already mentioned -- and his is the best. for english speaking mozlems -- his book reading his book is like a rite of passage....(in a non-bidah way -- for you salafis :)) |

[slm] Sort of off-topic here, but many people assume that Martin Lings isn't Muslim, most likely because of his name. Don't let the name fool ya. People with western names are Muslims too :) It's a very good book. Ash Shifa is very good, it's not conventional sirah in the sense that it is not so much a chronicle of his [saw] life, but it focuses on his person, his qualities, and insha'allah has a great effect on increasing one's love of his noble person [saw]. |

[slm] Martin Lings is Muslim. He also goes by Abu Bakr Siraj-ud-Deen. "Martin Lings" is what appears on the cover of his seerah book though (for most editions). Wassalamu alaikum. |

Salam, I would also recommend Martin Ling's biography. Beautifully written. I'm also curious to know what the 3-4 spurious passages are. JAK ^_^ salam, merimda |
