Insha'Allaah I may be going to Kashmir soon  :-X, (insha'Allaah, insha'Allaah!)

Do u guys know of any worthwhile places to go to, this also includes in Pakistan cos am hoping to have a travel around there too.  Any kinds of places, like landmarks, best cities (in ur opinions ;)), best scenery, and also,...good eating places:D.  I remember bro Nomi and maybe bro Arshad had a thread awhiiile back about places to eat, so maybe I could browse for that... :)

Oh and also, the best clothes shopping areas! Please, am kind of desperate, am sort of hoping to go shopping once there as I don't know what would be so appropriate to wear, especially cos of the weather too (it will be hot right?).

;)Does anyone know if it's possible to go mountain climbing somewhere there? Or am I asking a bit much now? :)

Jazak'Allaah khayran (am excited if u can't tell!  :-X)

ohh, also, I was kind of hoping to get near the border to Afghanistan, but am being told not to even make any plans for that...which is understandable as everything is still so volatile, but I heard Afghanistan has some amazing places too, like valleys etc, so I was hoping to get a glimpse :(

Aight, wa'salaam  :)

If you are going to Kashmir soon, the weather won't be hot. Currently there is the tail-end of winter in Islamabad, Kashmir and the Northern areas. I always feel cold in this weather in Islamabad, but then i would feel cold anywhere. Karachi is officially out of the cold season. Interior Sind, lower Punjab, and most of Baluchistan will soon follow. Spring is near, March/ April are the months for that.

The Northern Areas are always cold. I haven't been there, though.

For clothes, if you want bargains or variety, buy at Karachi or Lahore. For the Northern or cold Areas, I don't know if warm clothes will be available at Karachi or Lahore. but you can certainly buy these at Islamabad/ Rawalpindi. There are markets to suit every purse, but if you look like you have dollars or pounds, you will have to part with more than is necessary.

What sort of places do you fancy for a visit? nature, or ruins, or old buildings? Karachi has some old stone construction like Frere Hall, Mohatta Palace. Lahore has its Fort and the Gardens, and the Hiran Minar at Sheikhupura. Near Rawalpindi/ Islamabad, you have Taxila, and the ruins of the Gandhara Civilisation.

Plenty of valleys in the Potohar region (where Islamabad is situated). In fact, even the deserts of Sind, or the mongrove forests near Karachi are attractive.

I saw a cool site thrugh www.weneedtounite.com which gives weather for the world. Decide when you are going to visit, because Feb to April is a time when the weather is rather changeable, so you need both types of clothing.

I heard that some 'behen' (sister) is in need of some help about desiland!

Here goes... (Lahore, Lahore and Lahore) ... Islamabad is the only other option, Karachi is hot (weather) and water isn't that good.

Lahore, is undoubtedly the most lively city of Pakistan. Lahore, undoubtedly has the most mouth watering and coolestest eating places which out number other cities too. reason why Karachi is so overrated is that everyone from Pakistan, other than me, on this board seems to be 'urdu speaking' aka Karachiite :). Lahore, has got two food streets now, i have had few breakfasts there after playing cricket under flood lights all night! well, occasionally.

www.lahorifood.8k.com

is the best site about lahori food
developed by a friend
#1 on google search
Type: Lahori food or
Lahori Chaska

For Food I would recommend:

Bashir darul Mahi (Mozang, Lahore: for fish)
Muhammadi Nihari (Right next to Bashir's shop)
Ziafat (M.M Alam Road: For continental Food)
KcGrill (DHA Lahore, Near TesMart... Try the dish named "Futtucini Fornello") (I had it for todays Lunch... very tasty alhamdulillah)
Village (M.M.Alam road... highly recommended, dont miss this one)
Chill out spot (Opposite Barket Maket, Garden Town: their Ice Cream rocks )
But Karahi (Lakhshmi Chawk... a place crowded with men, so, just tell ur men to try it.)
Coffee Tea and Deli (For Cakes, and sweets)
Kitchen Kuisine (sp?) (For Cakes, and sweets)
Yeefah and Taiwah (Main boulevard Gulberg: Chinese ofcourse.. paki-chinese infact... tastes good)

For recreation you can try:

Sindbad ... um.. rest of the places are not my type.

Shopping:

If you have a strong heart then dont forget to visit Anarkali Bazaar and Ichra Bazaar, it'll be an experience of a lifetime for you inshaAllah. Pace supermarket is expensive by paki standards but, If you want to buy something for your male relatives then a fast friend of mine runs a shop in pace-plaza from where you'll be able to get a better price, its on second floor, use escalator, take immediate double right, keep walking and enter second last shop at your right (unfortunatelt i dont have the shop number). Ask for Iffi (Iftikhar). "If" you decide to shop there, just select your stuff, ask for the price and only then give my reference to see how much discount you get. Oh, hes somewhat a yo man! you know, like the average dress designers :). So bear with me. Try any other shop at "pace" for ladies dresses, they are pretty cool.

Weather:

Its not hot here, you'll be needing a jumper atleast, especially in the morning and at night.

Dont go to Murree as it'll disappoint you. Cheaposity all around!!! Its a sad state of affairs, youth flirting openly like that. Goto Shugran instead, its a beautiful place past abbotabad, past balakot. There you'll be able to hike to s'ree and pa'A, pa'A is a beautiful peak - lush green. A round trip will take 4-5 hours i.e. a hike from shugran to s'ree pa'A so you can opt for jeeps too, they are there everywhere.

You can go to Chaman border of Afganistan, situation is not 'that' bad there, just make sure that you are not wearing a pant/jeans. A friend visited there few months back in his jeans and had to face some aggressive stares! Jilbab+Hijab is a nice option to go there. I wonder what they'll do to me if i go there in the dress that i'm wearing right now! I guess my meat will suit Camel Steak better.

Anything else you need to know, i'm just a post away inshaAllah

A correction:

That shop... its second last on "left", not right. I was on the wrong bus as always.

Kitchen Cuisine is in DHA, Lahore.
Coffee Tea and Deli is near Hussain Chawk, Liberty Market.

Lahoris or should I say Punjabis are also more hospitable than Karachiites :) (isn’t that so obvious)

wow, thank u so much.

Lol, I'm taking a guess here and assuming bro Nomi ur from lahore??  This may come as a disappointment to u, but I haven't heard many favourable things about lahore ??? But maybe ppl are just biased, hey ;)

Bro timbuktu, yep absolutely anyhting will do, ruins, fortresses, nature scenes, etc, anything that shows something about Pakistan and Kashmir.

Awww, thank u so much for the offer about ur friend bro Nomi, but I'd feel too shy to even buy anything from there! But seriously, jazak'Allaah khayran tho :)

U guys have made this sound even more exciting, I seriously cannot wait  :)

Have u guys ever thought of becoming tour guides/travel agents?  ;) I think u'd have a lot of business  :)

well sister thanks, when looking for my next move i will give being a tour guide a consideration, and your certificate will insha`Allah come in handy :)

i asked my daughter about this, and she laughed at me. she says:
so easy, all you have to do is type "travelguide Pakistan" into google and you will get it.
So I logged on to google, it gave me

www.google.com.pk

why pk, why not the international one, i wonder?

anyway i typed "travelguide Pakistan" into google search, and here is the result:

http://www.google.com.pk/search?q=travelguide+pakistan&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en&btnG=Google+Search&meta=

it says at the bottom of the first page:
do you want to search for "travel guide Pakistan"
so i typed that with a space between "travel" and "guide", and guess what: a new listing opens up:

http://www.google.com.pk/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=travel+guide+pakistan&spell=1

I opened these sites as samples:
http://www.birminghamuk.com/cities/pakistan.htm
http://adventure.iexplore.com/dmap/Pakistan/Travel+and+Trips
http://travel.web.pk/
http://www.infohub.com/TravelGuide/TRAVELLER/ASIA/pakistan.html

i expect you will be travelling and living with relatives, so perhaps it is their headache, but they will promise and delay their promises, i can assure you.

Mountains and valleys, and deserts, and ancient sites, villages where they use cakes made of cow dung and straw and dried and use as fuel, and buffaloes, and bullocks and donkeys, and the Falcon and golden Eagle, and the world famous Hubara bustard, and big cities, and thriving old bazaars and new markets, even a mall or two, Pakistan has everything. At Karachi you can go to the sea-side, ride a camel, go to the Safari Park, visit Gandhi Garden (used to be a zoo, in my young days), and of course eat and shop to your heart's content.

so read through, and enjoy, and ask questions if you have any.

a bit of warning: The East is slow, very slow compared to the West. In the big cities: Karachi and Lahore, everyone will be rushing for work and won't have time for you. in other towns and villages, they will move so slow, and will say just now, or just a little distance, which will be the understatement of the millennum.

jazak'Allaah khayran brother  :)

I thought it would be best to ask ppl there who actually *live* there to tell me all the coolest places to go to and their favourtie hang-outs, so I would be getting the best from this trip.  Insha'Allaah when I have more time than I do now, I'll check out the links u've given  :)
