asalam alakum,
Happy New Year to you and all the Muslims inshAllah! Here is an email I received, please read and forward to others inshAllah.

Don't forget to increase your fasting during this holy month of Muharram. (especially on Ashoora (the tenth) and the ninth). It is the best month after Ramadan to fast in.

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “The Messenger of
Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: ‘The best of fasting
after Ramadan is fasting Allah’s month of Muharram.’”
(Muslim)

Remind your friends and family and may Allah accept our deeds
inshaAllah.

Here are some ahadith about the virtues of fasting Ashoora:

Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “I never saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) so keen to fast any day
and give it priority over any other than this day, the day of Ashoora, and this month, meaning Ramadan.” (Saheeh Al-Bukhari)

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “For fasting
the day of Ashoora, I hope that Allah will accept it as expiation for the
year that went before.” (Saheeh Muslim)

Abdullah ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “When the Messenger
of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) fasted on Ashoora and
commanded the Muslims to fast as well, they said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, it
is a day that is venerated by the Jews and Christians.’ The Messenger of
Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, ‘If I live to see the
next year, insha’Allah, we will fast on the ninth day too.’ But it so happened that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) passed away before the next year came.” (Saheeh Muslim, Abu Dawood).
