Flush the fish or bury the fish?

I'm pretty sure there is a simplicity to this entire thing that escapes me at the moment.....

what do YOU do if your fish "kicks the bucket"?

Not to be laughed at, but whilst some people flush the fish down the toilet, others bury them and make sure they read a fateha over the "grave".

erm....is there a wrong / right / "islamic" way to this whole fishy tale please?

:-[

When "Buddy" , the gold fish, died @ 4 years of age, it was tramatic for my son. He cried like a wailing old jewish lady.

There was 2 feet of snow outside and my hubby took Ali and they buried Buddy.
I was a bit worried in the spring time :o

The next time a fish died he was buried in the deep blue waters.....flush...
Ali is comforted to know that he is now at sea.... We actually took him to the sanitation plant and river outlet... It will be a couple more years before he figures that out... ;)

we buried three or four, one after another, in the flower beds

and did not offer fateha, but said a prayer for the dear departed soul

after the first burial, the children ere happy their fish was in Jannah, and the next time one died, they were eager to give a send-off

after the third one, the novelty had worn off, and they had better things to do, i guess

i was so upset when my fish died (my first pet since leaving home) that i had to get my husband to sort out the "funeral" cos i couldn;t bear the thought of it going down the toilet  :'(, and we didn't have a back yard  :o  So i don't actually know what he did with it, but i'll remember these suggestions should my second fish face the same fate...

We flushed "left" and we buried "right"...but only because my uncle had recently passed away, and my little brother (9 at the time) was intent upon doing a proper Islamic burial (whatever it meant to him at that time anyway)...

It was kind of funny, and he started crying when I told him I wanted to eat it.

On the same note, as a child, I used to hold proper janaazas for cockroaches and ladybugs and stuff (I still do that to freak my roommate out).  I had witnessed a funeral when I was 3 or 4 of a girl in my brother's class who was eaten by a shark, and I guess it violently disturbed me or something.

Wasalaam.

Whoa! :D Hehehe, that's funny. But really I can understand how you feel. I've lost pets (all cats) and it was always heartwrenching for me - as a child.
Anyway, I bought these two fish which I call "dumb fishies" for my daughter last year because she was bugging me for a pet. (She wanted a kitten). So I got her the fish and told her I'd see how responsible she'd be with them before I decided on the kitten. I figured they'd croak in 3 days max. Those little suckers would not and refused to die! It's driving me nuts because as I figured my daughter never cleans their water OR even feeds them unless I tell her. So who do you think is stuck with their care?! Moi! Hence the name "dumb fishies". My daughter thinks it's a hoot when I call them that. Their real names are Jaws and Silver. Anyway, please no one hate me but I've about had it with those fish and am about to flush them down the toilet alive!  :'( If anyone is interested in adopting Jaws & Silver, the two cheapest fish on the market, email me. :) Oh and they live on Italian bread crumbs.....LOL...I'm serious....aren't I cruel?! Let me stop. LOL.

( :D these were cute)

Oh my …

You bring back the shocking ordeal that broke all our hearts…  Cleaning the tank & it jumped down the drain :o … what could be more heartbreaking & remorseful.

One of those moments when things go so fast that you wish you could go back in time a split second.

Oh but in hindsight… it spared us that burdensome question …

… ours merely took matters into it’s own hands  ;)

:-*I bought a Puffer today!

I am so excited... I almost begged my hubby. Ok I did beg and... I did do a little bit of eye lash batting.... :-) ;-)

He is too cute! :-/

:DWe are thinking of naming him an arabic name that has Islamic significance, like our Parrot who is named Tawheed. I love using my animals for dawah!

Any Suggestions?

i dunno if this is off subject but I named my last kitten Sabr ad-deen, but I was never patient enough to say his whole name and he became "Dino", like the rat pack.  He grew to be the size of a small tiger and learned english before I had to find a nice cat lady to look after him, since my lifestyle is a little too eratic.
but just be careful whatever yu name him.  i named my last horse "Phoenix" and hoo doggy was that unwize.  She was red and gold to begin with  and with racing in her ancestory, by the time she was big enough to ride she was living up to her name and acting as though she did not have feet.  We did a lot of really cool arial manoevers, but unless getting from point a to point b involved catching air we had problems with it.  ONe day while roling down a mountain I came to the conclusion that she needed to get back to her roots, either hassleing cows or cowboys.  I could tell by the look on her face as the trailer was pulling away that she hadnt thought I was seroius.
Oh well, when i get my next red horse I need to remember to seriously consider the name Pokey.
Oh yea, back in the day, my goldfish were Janice and Jimmy. also no good, and we went with flushing.  After that none of my fish had names, and the chickens and geese always had discriptive names, like the big old white one or that strange looking one.
Well, I hope that helps you avoid my mistakes in animal naming,
Salaam,
