Recently I was able to register for a 2 weekend course by the Al Magrib Institue called Conquest: History of the Khulafaa' given by Dr. Muhammad Alshareef.  Insh'Allah, it will be in Virginia on the weekends of Mar. 13 and Mar. 20.  I have never been to one of these seminars and was hoping that someone who may have already gone or knows someone who went to either this course, or other courses/halaqas given by Al Maghreeb Institute or by Dr. Alshareef could share their experiences and opinions and give information about these.

Also, curious if anyone from the board is insh'Allah going to this upcoming seminar.

JazakumAllah khairin for all your help.

Wa'alaikum Assalam wa rahmatullah Br. Saam  :),

I attended the History of Khulafa class by Br. Muhammad Al-Shareef in Houston, and I must say it was a great experience, Alhamdulillah. I am sure u'll not regret it, InshaAllah. You'll definitely learn a lot about our history and virtues of the sahaba (RadiAllahu 'Anhum) bi'iznillahi Ta'ala. Just a piece of advice: Take notes InshaAllah, and have good sleep during the nights before the classes, so that u remain attentive during the class. Br. Muhammad Al-Shareef has some set rules while he is giving lectures, but they are all meant for students to be attentive during the class, and to help him remain focussed while he is giving lectures. U'll come to know of them before he begins the class, InshaAllah. He doesn't like students coming late in the class, or sleeping during the class, or cell phones ringing etc. So, just make sure while u're in the class, its only ur mind (to think) and ur pen (to write) that's working  :), the rest, keep them aside. I pray that these classes turn out to be a source of learning  and understanding of our deen Islam for you, and may Allah (awj) give all of us the opportunity to benefit from scholars like Br. Muhammad Al-Shareef and their teachings (Ameen).

Wassalamu 'Alaikum.

Masha Allah!

First, I want to congratulate you for registering for the class.  May Allah (awj) reward you, purify your intentions, and make this class a source of benefit to you in this life and the Aakhirah.  You have entered a blessed program, headed by an *amazing* teacher (and brother), and a topic which is inspiring, captivating and emotional.

Second, I want to suggest to you, if you have not already done so, to check out the al-Maghrib forum.  If you go to the main page of the Institute - www.almaghrib.org - you'll see it there under the "Student Center" page.  The forum has all the students registered.  The class material is discussed, Br. Muhammad al-Shareef is available to answer questions, and you can get to know people from your class and other classes.

Finally, as Br. Bulwark said, try to follow the rules for the class.  Be on time.  Take notes.  Eat lightly before and during the class (don't stuff yourself), and get a good night sleep.  Fast on the Thursday before the class.  Buy the supplementary book, "History of Islam."  It'll help you immensely studying for the exam after the class.

May Allah (swt) put barakah in this program, and reward Br. Muhammad Al-Shareef for what he's doing.  I cannot say enough about the benefit of this institute.  Its style is unique, its teachers are well-qualified, its teaching techniques are incredibly effective, and its topics are always captivating and never boring.

Wassalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wabarakatuh.

An al-Maghrib Student

P.S. I took Usul al-Fiqh with the Institute 3 months ago, and History of the Khulafaa' two weeks ago.  Both in Houston.  Walhamdulillah.

as salaamu alaykum,

sh. muhammad is so awesome :)  I haven't had the chance to attend his weekend intensives, but I've attended a ton of lectures/workshops/sessions of his at various conferences and he is such a source of knowledge as well as an awesome teacher, masha'Allah :)

one suggestion.. if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask him!  he can seem kind of intimidating but he is *very* approachable and he will give you some awesome insight on things.

enjoy the class.. let us know how it goes :)

take care

wasalaamu alaykum

[slm] ikhwan wa akhwat,

I just took the final exam for this class, one month after taking the class.  I must say, alhamdulillah, it was an amazing experience, Sh. Muhammad AlShareef is a mash'Allah amazing teacher.  I recommend as many of you as can to for his next (and maybe last class in the U.S.) Tafseer Surat AlBaqarah.  You can see his stuff on www.almaghrib.org and he has recordings of his old lectures on www.emanrush.com.

Inshallah I'll be posting more frequently.
